When Harriet the Spy came out I remember that every girl in my grade (I think it would be second) wanted to be a spy and ate tomato sandwiches everyday at lunch (personally I still like tomato sandwiches). Does anyone else remember anything like this?
Right after I saw the movie I went into the kitchen and made a tomato sandwich, took one bite and then went back and put ham, lettuce, and cheese on it. Lol!
Oh gosh I like the tomato sandwiches, their so good and healthy too! Anyways, I saw the movie in the late 90s, so I didn’t get to really see anyone in my six grade class obsessed with tomato sandwiches, but I remember after I saw this movie I brought tomato sandwiches to school for a while, not everyday but a few times a week. I would also pause the movie minutes before the scene when she would be making the sandwiches and I would run to the kitchen and make me some of those delicious tomato sandwiches and start eating them while watching the movie. Oh gosh I’m hungry now I guess I better go and make me some of those sandwiches right now!
I wanted to do everything just like Harriet. I always acted like a spy and did those crazy things. I'm sure I've seen the movie a million times! I wanted to do everything like her and be like her. I did the same thing whenever I watched Charlie's Angels.
I remember being the only one of my friends to love it.
It was really sad(that none of my friends liked it), but I do eat tomato sandwiches to this day, but not because of that movie... they are just really delicious.
I remember when I read the book being startled by the idea of a tomato sandwich lol! I said to myself "And what else is in it?" No one I knew read much, so I couldn't even discuss the book with anyone. Readers were rare around here even back in the 1980s. Nowadays you'd be hard-pressed to find young readers that would even want to read a book like this...its not all 'spelled out' for you like "Harry Potter" or other boring fare like that.
"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus." "Didn't he discover America?" "Penfold, shush."
