okay so it was a great film...good ending except for the fact that annie and elise ditched their horrid husbands...but why did brenda want to get back with morty after he ditched her for the horrible shelly?!(SJP looks the worst i've seen her in this film) that was stupid! I know that Morty says to Shelly that she was no brenda..but when did he suddenly change his mind about not being in love with her and wanting to marry her!?
I think they had them get back together because they were the ones who had a teenage son. Annie's daughter was grown up and Elise did not have any kids. Brenda's side of the story was more family invovled. Each woman had someting different. I guess the writers and directors did not want to break up an actual family.
Huh?!? Yeah, b/c real families don't get broken up or anything. So...the writers decide that that family should be together b/c ONLY teenagers are hurt by a-hole parents who run off?
It's funny that you should bring that up because I also thought it was strange that Annie and Elise both dumped their husbands but Brenda and Morty begin the road to reconciliation. It just kind of comes out of nowhere. Yeah, Morty says Shelly is no Brenda, but when the ladies first form the club, Brenda is positively venemous about getting revenge on Morty and she does suppopsedly bleed him dry when she gets hold of his doctored bookkeeping so why all of a sudden would she want to get back with him? It's not like Morty has changed in any way by the end of the film.
I think he realized he was an *beep* I think they will be civil with each other from now on. Plus if he hurts Brenda, I'm sure good, kind, Uncle Carmien with talk and deal with Morty in an all Legal situation.....
ummm...its called mid-life crissi. dont act like none of you have never heard of it. And to be quite frank Morty was not that bad. Sur ehe left Brenda for a younger woman but so do majority of the couples that make it to middle-old age and are still married to the same woman as they were when they were in their 20s
Well Brenda did say she wanted him dumped. She didn't say she hated him or anything. Although she probably did. And some women really like guys that are rats b/c they want to try and change them. They relish the challange.
When the club is first formed, she says that she still loves him. Yes, that was followed by declarations of revenge, but I think she was never really over Morty, no matter how much she got back at him. This is especially evident when she hears about his engagement to Shelly; she is clearly knocked sideways by this. In the end I think she was merely seeking justice, and once she had paid him back sufficiently, she was happy to reconcile, particularly for their son.
From reading everyone's reply I think that there are three factors to consider:
1) As people have said, Brenda did say that she still loved him and the son factor.
2) If this movie were to be a complete "men-bashing" movie as some have seen it, all three would have left their husbands so I think this made a good point about forgiveness and that there is not total loss of the institute of marriage.
3) I think that not only did Morty have a change of heart, I think that he was proud of Brenda for what she did...I think he realized that it may have taken a lot to do if she did indeed still love him and now that he could see what she could do, he would definitely think twice about ever leaving her again.
