Does anyone like this movie

I kid you not, I have never heard anyone tell me that they actually like this movie. I didn't care for it and I'm wondering is it just me and my circle or do people just not like this movie in general? I still can't believe this won best picture over "Fargo"

reply

I guess they rewarded the effort, not the result.

I love this movie!!

reply

Its my favourite movie of all times!

reply

One of my favorites, too

It's a pretty good film and didn't seem almost three hours long.

Why ain't you at the garden party you heathen?

reply

I saw this in the theater when I was on an Oscar bender and seeing all the nominees that year, and I have to say this was excruciating to sit through. So no disrespect to people who liked this movie, but I most certainly am not one of them.

If you saw a movie once & didn't care for it, why would you come to its chat board 14 years later?

reply

I'm not sure what attracted me here, to tell you the truth. I guess I was bored. I've seen Anthony Minghella's other films, and I liked those a lot more than this one.

Usually when I see a movie I don't care for, I'll respond to a couple posts about it, then forget it a day or two later. But I saw this long before I was on IMDb.

I just finally got around to watching this movie. I didn't even watch the original Manchurian Candidate until I saw the remake.

This is one of my top 10 favorite movies. BTW, see the original Manchurian Candidate. You'll be glad you did because it outshines the remake.

reply

see the original Manchurian Candidate
I think it's pretty clear that I already watched it, as worded in my previous comment.

Two and a half years after you made this comment; I want to commend you. It's great.
Thanks.

I intend to live forever. So far so good.

The chances are you weren't on IMDB in 1996 when the movie came out. It makes sense that you didn't comment on it then.

People tend to browse through IMDB all the time and go back and comment on films they saw years ago. It's really what the site is all about, reviewing both movies you've just seen and others you like or dislike throughout your lifetime.

I love "The English Patient." It is one of my favorite movies and has stayed with me all these years. I watch it every time it is on TV. I love it. I am watching it now.

This is my third favourite film of all time. I never find it boring, but rather poetic and beautiful

I didn't like it the first time I saw it. I'm pretty sure I fell asleep but I gave it another try years later and I loved it. I also enjoyed Fargo very much.

reply

I loved the movie. But maybe I was caught up with my fantasies left by the book.

I'm sure everyone's going to have their own opinion of which movie should have won best picture. There are tons of threads, but guess what? English Patient won it. You may not like it, and many others don't. But there are those that do. There will never be a movie that everyone agrees with that it should win the oscar for best picture.

This movie has a lot of things about it that I can see why people might not like it. I just recently watched it for the first time and found it to be a good movie. I personally enjoyed "Fargo" more but this film has a truly epic quality to it (broad landscapes, beautiful cinematography, set against the backdrop of a major conflict) that the Academy tends to look very favorably on. It almost seemed like the movie was made with the knowledge that it had the characteristics of an Academy Award-winning film.
