Is it just me (warning major B+BH fan)

Or is Mike Judge a complete ass??? I mean...I watched the 10-year special edition dvd and I listened to everything in the commentary...he hardly talked at all about Beavis and Butthead...he acted like he hated it....he's like "I hate this part." "this is a funny part." and only laugh not even a really chuckle...doesn't pay attention to the movie! He's like "It's been 10 years...its getting old." >_> I don't think so I still love it to this day! B & BH never get old....

Hmm... I noticed on the documentry on The Mike Judge Collection vol. 1 DVD he doesn't smile much and talks about the animation as horrible. The decision to not release every B+BH episode for DVD is very odd, too. Sure some creators hate certain episodes of their show, but they never ban it or keep it from DVD release. I believe Mike just doesn't care for the characters as he believes their antics are too old or stupid for todays modern society. Perhaps he cares more for King of the Hill

Ah well I'm still a fan AND IT ISN'T RUBBISH!

reply

yeah, i love it, king of the hill? that past its prime about a century ago.

reply

yes it is, a couple of fart jokes and toilet humor doesnt make comedy.

reply

[deleted]

...it doesnt ??? that about all we see on "South Park", and thats a top show for comedy central, Beavis and Butthead paved the way for south park and others.

reply

Yeah, when i do work on a piece (animation short usually), even if other people say its great I cant stand it! All i see is the bad stuff, perhaps its like that.

reply

that about all we see on "South Park"

Ah yes, the classic, close-minded view of South Park. Assuming it's all fart jokes without paying any attention to the subtle humor, wit, and clever takes on the problems with today's society... Huh-huh-huh... ASS-uming... Just kidding.

The OP is right....Judge is noted for being "embarassed" by the early episodes, and select later episodes, of his B and B, and that's why he's never let all the episodes be shown on dvd, complete and in sequence. He's gotten over the hurdle of getting permission to put to dvd the music video sequences, but still hasn't put out a definitive collection of all the eps. He's not only said he's embarassed by some of the work, but he also said he got bored and ran out of ideas. Odd how the fans now appreciate his work more than he does, seeing as how groundbreaking this series was for animation content.

reply

"Judge is noted for being "embarrassed" by the early episodes".

Rightfully so - the first season was pretty crude and lame. Later on, the comments on the videos they watched, for example, became considerably more creative and even kind of pop culture savvy, much adept at ridiculing the dumb stuff showing up on their TV.

reply

"Why does that bug you so much? I couldn't give a rat's ass what he thinks, I like it." I agree, he's the creator, he has more right to criticize it than anyone else.

reply

Give the guy a break. He probably has seen it 1000000000000000000000000000.1 times.

beavis and butthead will NEVER get old... i work at a video dept. and me and i girl i work with watch this every time we close and know every line to the movie...plus, i just watched the show the other day and laughed my ass off

Actually to guy who said he has seen it so many times, he states on the commentary that this was the first time he has seen it since it hit cinemas. I felt that he really loved the show and the film and I think it seemed that he was over whelmed by what he had made. Then again a lot of creators hate their creations like JK Rowling with Harry Potter. I know when I work on a movie I can't stand it.

"Then again a lot of creators hate their creations like JK Rowling with Harry Potter."

Where in the world did you get the idea that JK Rowling hates Harry Potter? Have you seen any of the interviews she's done recently promoting the final book? She clearly loves the series and is proud of her accomplishments on them.

reply

I grew up with B&B and so they hold a special place for me. I feel like I can quote every one. Judge should get off his ego trip and remember what show made it for him. BTW King of the hill is a really boring show directed twords middle aged men, can you get more boring than that? I cant understand why so many like it.

reply

No kidding!I don't remember ever laughing at King of the Hill even once. Judge abandoning B&BH for KOTH is like trading in your Ferrari for a Volvo. If he feels embarassed by Beavis And Butthead, his sucess has gone to his head; it is far and away the funniest and most original work he has ever done.

King Of The Hill fits the description of a rubbish show that will soon be forgotten.
Beavis and Butthead is a one of a kind cult classic that will have fans 50 years from now.
By the way, B&BH has a lot more to offer than fart jokes. Unfotunetly, the biting satire and social commentary goes over some viewers heads.

I'm sellin my soul to the Devil in you

It was the unrestricted control and freedom, both in its content, and overall production that made B+B so great. with king of the hill, he probably had alot more light-humored producers and heavier censors around the show because its on a major network and not cable channel. It would be awesome if he did another animation on a premium channel like hbo or showtime cause he would have more creative control.

King of the Hill is not rubbish either though, it's made the top 100 American Sitcom list from numerous publications. People fail to see that King of the Hill is Beavis and Butthead. Where B and BH took and exaggerated the antics of the stereotypical trouble maker, King of the Hill took and exaggerated the antics of the stereotypical Texan. Beavis and Butthead was great, but there was no social commentary to that show at all. The only social commentary on that show was how 80's hair metal bands suck to the younger generation and that was about it. It was basically about bored kids causing trouble. I think that's why Mike Judge isn't so fond of it. It was something he did when he was younger, and he doesn't want to be pigeonholed as the Beavis and Butthead guy when he's made some really great stuff after that. I think the people that hate King of the Hill really are on the level where they can't be bothered with anything more than fart and explosion jokes. I think that was people's biggest problem with King of the Hill. They wanted a cartoon, and this was basically an animated sitcom (meaning it doesn't do the unbelievable stuff like on Simpsons and Family Guy and South Park). People get offended if you say stuff has to be dumbed down for them, but King of the Hill is the perfect example of people hating because it wasn't dumbed down for them.

reply

I think mike is awesome. He has that mentallity of like "I wanted to make something people love, its the same thing over and over, but people still love it and still wanna see it". He is the anti-cocky hollywood *beep* who thinks there movies are gold. he knows its good, he doesn't have to lie about his own personal opinon ya know dude?

reply

It's not that he has some huge ego or anything. It's like going through a bunch of old photos and seeing yourself wearing what you thought was awesome 7-10 years ago and now you just look ridiculous or watching a video of you crying and screaming like you won a new car when you got a Furby for Christmas. It's just that he feels like "I actually thought THIS was awesome?" With the jokes being juvenile and the animation looking very crude compared to King of the Hill(I really like the show I'm not being negative about it). I'm sure he likes the show but he wants to move on from it and stop being "That guy who made Beavis and Butthead"

It's like why Gary Coleman doesn't want to say "What you talkin' 'bout Willis?" or Keanu Reaves not doing Ted impressions. I mean really, try showing the world a home video of you just getting back from Batman and Robin with you calling it a cinematic masterpiece and quoting the worst lines from the movie.

reply

Hey! You'd be a complete ass too if you had to supervise every frame of the TV show and the movie, technically watching the whole thing in slow motion thousands of times, and then be forced to sit through it again to record a commentary when it has been 10 years and you really don't know what to say about it, especially since you have long since forgotten the project to focus on new things.

YOu have too look at it this way, this is the part of Mike Judge you like, up there on the screen, if you met him in person it would probably be dispointing.

reply

The same can be said about most any celebrity. You can't really expect to meet Mike Judge and expect him to not only notice you, but to be your friend and buy you a beer. A friend of mine got to meet Adam Sandler when he was filming in Hawaii, and he spoke for just a bit before a mob of fans rushed in and begged for autographs. When I met my favorite NASCAR driver Terry Labonte, all I got was a handshake, an autograph, and a picture.

He'll never remember my face of course, it was a personal appearance at a car show. But hey. YOu have to look at it this way; Celebrities are, for the most part, just like you, except that every time they go outside, they have to deal with people violating their space for a damn picture, and they have to deal with agents and producers who want nothing more than to use their pretty faces to make more of the green stuff.

It's obviously a contreversial show, love it or hate it, it did leave a mark on MTV. I personally love it and see it as not only mainstream animation genesis (along with The Simpsons) but a creative and hilarious comedy which never seems to get old. Ok, the animation isn't perfect, but it's not THAT bad. As for Mike Judge, well you have got a point, he doesn't come across as a pleasent person, but then again he did create B & BH and so clearly has a good sense of humor. Plus he taught me that you really can fit an absurd amount of masterbation jokes into 5 short minutes. :)

reply

haha what's controversial about Beavis and Butthead?

I found this movie on the disk of an old computer and watched it.
A few laughs, that's all. I understand if the creator is embarrased.

reply

FIRE, FIRE, FIRE...i remember that being controversial with like mothers against letting children set fire to household items, then again if there isnt a mothers against group for something it just isnt cool...my personal favourite is mothers against maddox that guy cracks me (if you havnt read this guys stuff i adivse that you do http://maddox.xmission.com/ , just dont read it at work it will make you laugh REAL loud)

-Do unto others what you find funny-

reply

I have listened to the commentary on the DVD and Mike says this is the only movie he has made he can watch all the way through.
He often points out how great it was and what he still found funny 10 years later.
Also, he talked of nothing except the movie, apart when he went off on a little Jerry Lewis rant.

What commentary were you listening to?
