Brad Pitt Can't Act

I just watched 12 M. for the first time, all the way through. Is the reason that IMDB describes it as a black comedy because Pitt's performance is so clownish and exaggerated? Was he not directed!? I don't think he was at this undeserved exalted place in pop. culture at the time, so why didn't they fire him after the first few dailies? He's just awful and distracting in every scene.
I was never a Brad Pitt hater, but his performance in Seven was bad, too. I also saw him in an earlier obscure flick and he was terrible there as well. 12 M would have been a much better movie, and possibly a cult classic, without him in that key role. Brad must've been a pool boy for some influential producer back in the day. He surely can't act.

No... Black humor mainly consists of: 'Pimp: "I was attacked by a coked up whore and a - a *beep* crazy dentist!"!'

Not Brad Pitts acting

reply

But he does, very well in Babel and The assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford

Lawyer:You sir are a moron
Homer:A Mormon,but I'm from earth!

Brad Pitt is a wonderful actor and a very talented one! His performance in 12 Monkeys was one of the best he's done I think. Absolutely an acting-masterpiece. He kind of reminds me of The Joker in The dark knight!

he plays the same character as the stoner rory cochrane played in dazed and confused...go ahead watch and see.

he was supposed to be a twitchy lunatic, a bit like jim carrey in batman forever, i think he did a great job, his perfomance in seven was alrite, still he`s a good actor.

As you said, "he was supposed to be a lunatic, a bit like Jim Carrey in Batman Forever", (that's overacting to me, the same for Tommy Lee Jones as Two-Face in the same movie, but still both characters were good and very enetertaining).

But for this particular character, not being a Brad Pitt fan and not thinking this role is Oscar worth-ish, I think he made a very good job, I don't see him as a clown, or an overacted character, he's playing a total NUTS, what do people expect? He performed the crazy that the story required.

I have to admit this is the BP character that I enjoyed the most.

yeh thats what i meant to say, i am trying to show hes good in this movie, exactly like the script wANTS himto be

You can't just say "he's a liability and they should have fired him after the first few dailies", because you're in the minority here. Having met manics, he's no more exaggerated than some of the people in those places. Anyway, he was nominated for an Oscar for this role, so the reason they didn't fire him is because they reckoned just enough people would think he was giving a BRILLIANT performance for him to be an asset to the film.

Brad Pitt was Awsome in 12 Monkeys!

uh... it's spelt 'Se7en'.

Brad P has been good in other movies. But in this phase of his career he was giving a bunch of lousy, showy, hambone performances as a calculated effort to get people to say "Gee, Brad Pitt can really act!"

You can't get headlines with subtle acting. People won't notice! Emerging actors need something loud and obnoxious. Acting for most people is overacting. I hate this role. Pitt contributes his fair share to making the movie an overwrought turd.
