Movies with zero comic relief

What are some movies that remain bleak throughout? I'd say Se7en is one. Sure we have that scene in the apartment ("Just a soothing, relaxing, vibrating home huh?") but I wouldn't say it's all that funny - nor the part where Mills briefly talks about shaving off a nipple.

Anyway you get the idea. Here are some movies without comic relief:

- Se7en
- John Carpenter's The Thing
- Alien
- Irreversible
- Requiem for a Dream
- Blade Runner

Your turn.

The Terminator (1984), one of the reasons it works and ages so well.

All Carpenter's films have comic relief, especially The Thing. which I think has been part of his long lasting philosophy in his approach towards genre dynamics. I find those mentioned scenes in Seven a comic relief as well. Comic relief is not meant to be necessarily funny, it's meant to create a relaxing mood, the same happens in Commando or in all Rambo films, they're classic examples of those reliefs. Terminator, Alien, Blade Runner, all of them have that, otherwise they would not be as popular, imo. I believe the horror in films is always diminished with less of those reliefs, as they create more intensity in the mood. Some people say those are not comical, but then again there are people who don't find funny anything in some comedies either, as I said, comic relief is a filmmaking approach to create a dynamics, the mood, in order to escalate the intensity.

I remember the movie Breakdown with Kurt Russell and Kathleen Quinlan being bleak and tense the whole time.

But Mills *is* the funny one. It's not a humorless movie.
