It's sad that this is still the best video game movie ever.

After all this time and the great games with great stories we have gotten over the last decade, mortal kombat is still the most loyal and entertaining film ever based off of a game.

It's not a great movie or anything, but it is watchable and the overall reception at the time seemed to be positive.

Maybe it's because a great director never made anything like Halo, Bioshock, Uncharted or any number of great games that could have been great films.

As of right now, this is still the one that works the best.

I disagree, I think the original Resident Evil can measure up. Sure, the story doesn't line up with the "source material", but honestly? The original Resident Evil was horribly written with next to no storyline and was just general garbage. Resident Evil's plot makes far more sense and is a hundred times more compelling. After the first one though, it plummits.

I think a lot of the time studios spend so much money acquiring the movie rights to a popular video game that they don't have much left to hire any decent talent to make them. Also, gamers are kinda stupid and will pay to see video game movie crap whether it's good or not. Resident Evil movies suck so bad that it's more fun to just watch someone else play one of the games for 2 hours. But those movies still made a ton of money.

It appears that way since this and street fighter were the best. But if you think deep enough I’m sure there is. I can think of doom of the top of my head which I really liked.

Warcraft perhaps? Certainly not exactly a success, but Mortal Kombat isn't a good movie, it's just an entertaining movie.
