Mann says Heat 2 will be a feature film

Interesting development. I’m not really bothered about this unless Pacino is involved and I doubt he will be, but it’s high time we had another Mikey Mann film so I’ll take it.

Read all about it here: https://www.empireonline.com/movies/news/michael-mann-heat-2-movie-exclusive/

Better watch LA Takedown instead.

reply

thanks for the suggestion. im privateering it now

reply

Its a good movie that completes Heat.

reply

and Shang Tsung, the man himself Mr. Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa is in it too. what a cherry on top.

its pretty clear Pacino modelled his performance off the original guy massively. they even sound the same

reply

Exactly

reply

unfortunately best quality I found was 480p. and I doubt it was truly 480

reply

Yeah i dont think there is a dvd release.

reply

What does "privateering" mean?

reply

pirating

That’s good news, if it’s as good as the original I’d be very impressed.

reply

Yeah, not going to happen. Pacino and De Niro made Heat the modern classic that it has become, without them a sequel has no chance of matching it.

reply

Actually pretty excited about this. I mean nobody thought Godfather 2 was gonna be good much less an essential companion piece to the original. It could happen again.

reply

Yeah but God 2 retained its secret weapon - Pacino, plus it was made 2 years after the original. Heat 2 is dropping Pacino and De Niro, and Mann ain’t the director he used to be.

reply

Mann is definitely not the director he used to be. And it also feels a bit like a director desperate for a hit. Like the ego version of a cash grab. One last big hurrah for an aging film maker.

reply

Bingo. This ^^

reply

And it's 30 years later if it's released by 2025.

I would love to see Jake Gyllenhaal as Chris Shiherlis and Oscar Isaac as Hanna in a feature film!

reply

its hard for me to put into words why I think that would be trash. which is weird, I like Mann, and like those those actors. I just feel like it'll lose all the 90s grittiness and simplicity that made Heat good. and be some overblown, overdone cgi filled Michael bay film like ambulance

reply

I heard about this initially as the book, surprised to hear it now as a movie.

In all honesty I really hate when sequels get made as nowadays they feel to me like they're solely milking the success of the original. People liked X back then - let's make X again!

Heat is such a good film. The story feels finished. There's some bits here and there that make you wonder what happens next, or what happened prior. The story drops you into this segment of what's going on currently and takes you for a ride. That's all you need to me. A little desire of some other details is good, but I don't know if it warrants another movie. It may be nice to get some more details because we enjoy the first so much, but I would be completely shocked if it lived up to the first, even acknowledging that he will cast, score and shoot it very well.

In then end - I enjoyed Heat so much and I like Mann's work so I'll regretfully see this.

reply

If it’s a whole new cops and robbers thriller with a Pacino cameo as old Hanna then that could work, but I wouldn't want it to be called ‘Heat 2’ - the story of Heat ended with that final moment at LAX, don’t fuck with that.

reply

The article says he's writing the book first. And the book is going to be a prequel and a sequel at the same time à la The Godfather II.

reply

The book is out now, if i am not mistaken.

reply

Noooooo, don’t make a sequel, just let the original go down a classic.

reply

It is still a classic even if it gets a terrible sequel.

reply

Unless they undo everything that was great about the original like The Last Jedi did.

reply

Yeah i heard about that shit. For me, until i die, there will only bee three star wars films. 77, 81, 84

reply

I'm all for this. I really wish that Ryan Reynolds would be a part of it as that man has some acting chops. He needs to stop pigeonholing himself in these very similar comedic roles and step away from that for a while. I'd really like to see him in some more dramatic roles because he's just as good at drama as he is at comedy.

reply

He is a good actor but I don't think he's going to move away from that style now. That shtick IS ryan reynolds. Literally, Deadpool = Van Wilder = Waiting, even in ads/commercials he plays roughly the same persona with his manner of speaking and delivery. I don't see this changing for him now, although it would be nice to see.

Maybe at some point in the future he acts in a film that reminds everyone he actually can act and gets big nominations or awards for it.

reply

He ABSOLUTELY is capable of winning a best actor Oscar one of these days. 👍👍

reply

I've seen him do Deadpool (older version before reboot) and horror movies. He's capable of that but I dunno if he can get back to that mode. He's mostly been doing this gay Deadpool variant of himself.

Returning to the well.
