Just rewatched after a long ass time and wow

This film is freaking amazing. It genuinely amazes how well it holds up. Like it could legit be released today, as is.

It might honestly be my favorite heist movie of all time. Wonderful writing, great directing and brilliant acting. One of the best cinematic shootouts ever

Forget Batman v Superman, Godzilla v Kong & Iron Man v Cap. This is basically it. Two heavyweights, going at it. Pacino v DeNiro. What a matchup. They're both absolutely fantastic. They bring their absolute A-Game!!

It's almost a 3 hour movie, but I genuinely didn't even notice the runtime. It's gripping & intense af!

I still remember the first time I looked up how long the movie actually was and realized its runtime was far longer than it seems. The movie takes you for such a ride!

You're dead-on with the matchup at the centre of Heat, too. Pacino and DeNiro are the title bout, and there are so many movies that can't compete no matter the special effects simply because the characters here are better written and the actors are top-grade.

I genuinely forgot about the runtime. The film ended & I looked at my watch & like 3 hours had passed

I was like, holy sh*t, how long was this movie?!?!

That's the beauty of great film. You rarely notice the runtime. You'll find yourself being truly captivated throughout the whole film

I agree, it’s one of the best movies from the 90s for sure.

reply

Yeah, easily one of the best movies of the 90s.

reply

Yeah definitely one of the best movies of the 90s.

My thoughts exactly after just rewatching it!

It's been about a decade since I've watched it before today. I've always liked Heat but today it just somehow clicked with me, it was almost like watching it for the first time. Amazing fucking movie. I never before really realized how gorgeous it looks and the music is awesome. This was the first time watching it in HD and on a big tv with good sound so that propably helped getting really into it. Just a really great movie. 10/10

This film is damn near perfect. That is all.

Have to admit I just saw Heat for the first time. (Yes, I'm amazed too.)
But seeing it on commercial TV, even fast forwarding through commercials, I often felt I was missing things between scenes.
I couldn't always figure out how we got from one scene to the next and how they were connected.
So as the plot barrels forward, I just shrugged my shoulders and enjoyed the ride.
Definitely has that Michael Mann vibe to it, which isn't a bad thing.

reply

It has numerous characters and various plot threads, and doesn’t spoonfeed the audience. It all adds up though. Best to just let it wash over you and enjoy the ride, then you can watch it again and pick up on details you might have missed.

It really does, it's amazing. Some movies from the same time period feel very 90s. Even many later releases from the early 00s reek of their respective time period but this movie feels extremely modern.

reply

It's a fantastic production. Watched it a few months ago and it still feels fresh and on its own.

reply

The reason it feels modern because TDK imitated Mann's bank robbery style. That's the only reason people think tdk is as agood as it is.

If you've ever watched DEN OF THIEVES, it's pretty much a remake of HEAT when you compare the characters and the scenes are all very similiar
