Even though it's over 20 years ago there is just something so sexy and appealing abouy Amy Brenneman. Maybe it's the earthy vibe she thows out.

As previous posters have mentioned, she needed some spark to attract Neil. She’s obviously somewhat naive because she’s unknowingly dating a serious criminal, but some idiosyncrasies, quirks or humour would have gone a long way.
Diane Vernora was great in Heat but Mann made her a bland shrew in The Insider. Mann is such a masculine writer-director that he can be hit and miss when it comes to female characters.
All that said, Eady is inoffensive and in no way sandbags the film, she does provide some warmth and innocence in a cast of hard boiled bastards, she’s just slightly too meh.
