I really liked this movie, it was a somber, moving fantasy drama. I'd agree with others here about the emotions evoked by this film.
That said, of all the movies I've seen this film certainly has the saddest ending. At the end Fluke realizes how he wasn't a very good father, and concedes that he would get in the way of his family's happiness if he stayed with them, so he must go away. It's just so sad that he had to leave behind his family.

I was thought I was the only one who couldn't watch this film without crying. I remember watching it when I was about eight and bawling. Years later I watched it jokingly to see if there was anything to really cry about. I ended up bawling again. I couldn't believe it. I never cry in films but this was gets me every time.
