I've liked Mel Brooks' films, but I would say this was one of the "worst" (more like "not-as-good"). However, I think the scene where Harker and Van Helsing stake the vampire is one of the funniest scenes in comedy history, I honestly don't know anyone that didn't laugh during that scene and I still crack up whenever I see it again. It is just so over-the-top that it's brilliant, anyone else agree?
I disagree with the fact that this is one of Brooks' "worst" films. I think this and young frankenstein go hand in hand. I particularly like this film's loyalty to the novel.
But yes, the steaking scene is hilarious and it's only made better by the pairs execution of thier lines such as "OH MY GOD" and "she just ate"
when i was little me and my sister used to rewind and play this scene over and over and over (we did that to the part in dumb and dumber when harry is on the toilet)..its definitly halarious
I also think the scene where Dracula walks through the spider web, and then Renfield tries to walk through as well and gets tangled up in it, is one of the funniest scenes. A lot of scenes stick in my memory from this movie, but whenever I come across it in the movie store, that's the first one that pops into my head.
one word: THE SHADOW ok, two words: SHADOW DANCING SCENE ok, three words: THE DIRTY SHADOW DANCING allright, four words: NEAR-END OF THE DIRTY SHADOW DANCING SCENE
aww screw it, the shadows during draculas bespelling of mina just is just too funny
The greatest thing, you'll ever learn, is just to love, and be loved in return
It's definitely not in the same league as Young Frankenstein. But, I do think it's hilarious and underrated. My favourite scene is when Dracula tries to leave a message for the doctor, hypnotises a woman then she forgets everything she had to say before telling the doctor, then she goes back to Dracula as if she'd never seen him before:
-"Can I help you sir?" (imitating her) -""Can Aye Help you sirr" What is the matter with you? Why didn't you tell him?" -"About what?" -"About the messaaaage!" -"What message?" -"Never mind! I will tell him myself! And for your miserable performance you will receive no tip!" -"No tip?" -"Ha, that you remember!"
The funniest part of that scene was, after he goes in and tries to introduce himself to the guy and he is about to say his name and then to woman comes in...
Dracula: I am count- Woman: Dr Seward, there is a message for you in the lobby. (Hilarious look on Dracula's face you have to see it) Seward leaves Dracula:DRACU-curtain shuts-LA
"the scene where Harker and Van Helsing stake the vampire"
That scene is hilarious, and the line they give:
Johnathon: Oh My God, there's so much blood! Van Helsing: I know...We should have put newspaper down.
That just makes me laugh, even when thinking about it.......HA HA HA
Even when you watch the actual Dracula film starring Gary Oldman and Keanu Reeves, I always expect them to do that spoof scene when they stake Lucy, so funny.
The Whole film is consistantly hilarious and i agree with all the above mentioned scenes. Another funny line has got to be "SHE VIL BECOME VUN HERSELV", damn Brooks is class in this film.
Until the commentary I didn't catch that Renfield says "A E I O U Why" when he falls down the stairs. That cracks me up even more now. That and when Dracula says "I fly, you don't" and Renfield slaps his forhead and says "Oh Yes, of course" It's not the line it's Peter's delivery that I just love.
And let's not forget
Van Helsing: "She's Nosferatu"
Harker: "She's Italian?"
"Now you can scoop your own brains" - Charlie Sykes
I love the part when Dracula and Van Helsing meet the first time and they insult each other in another language, and both of them try to be the last one saying the last insult. When Dracula walks past the window and says the insult, that was great!
Dracula: vello, could i have a peice of your chicken? MAn: sure. have some wine too. Dracula: i don't drink... Vine.... oh vhat the vell.... OOOH! it's goooood! Reinfeild:Master! MAster! What are you doing outside in the daytime?! Dracula: Reinfeild, I'm cured! look at my i'm drinking vine and eating chviken! (starts smoking) Dracula: oh no!! i'd better get back to my coffin!
This part is hillarious! it's not as funny as some of the above ones, but i espedialy like the "oooh!! it's goooood!!" and the way the couple just give their chiken so willingly and polite.
I definitely agree here! I was busting a gut laughing at this part and all the while Peter MacNichol is sitting there with the grasshopper's leg stuck to his lip. Two thumbs up for that part!!
The whole scene with those Two (or three) sexy Vampire women and Renfield. They Fly in with that Scary Opera melody "AAaaAAaa... AaaAAaaa... AaaaaAA..." then They start touching him everywhere and Renfield was like "What are you doing?? WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE?? Do you know thats my Knee you are standing on!??? No No Nooo.. this is wrong! this is wroooong! Oh my god No! OH YES.. YEESSS!!! HURT ME!" Then Dracula comes in and scares the crap out of those Vampire Women and yells to them.. and they leave veeeeeeery slowly Flying out the door with that melody again "AaaAaa.. Aaaaaa.. Aaaaaa..".. Dracula gets mad again and tells them to Stop that CRAP and that Melody stops.. and they start Walking out.. HAHAHAHAHAH
One more scene! When DRACULA comes to rescue Renfield from that Psycho house.. Dracula breaks open the iron fence window and then Flyes down to the ground.. while he is down on the ground he says "Come Renfield! Hurry!" and Renfield jumps down headfirst SMACK!! then Dracula says "Renfield.. i meant for you to use the Drain Pipe.. I FLY! U DONT!"
I'd have to say my favorite scene is during renfields rescue when renfield falls because he has a headache and dracula looks up and says "Renfield, I am talking to you!", brilliant
