Wow, people this movie was NOT THAT BAD

Dear god, lol, i found this movie exciting and fun all the way through, if you want a BAD movie take a look at Blood Rayne, Or Timothy Hines War Of The Worlds, but in congo the acting was great, the story was interesintg, and yes I HAVE read the book, but as i sit here day by day and watching good movies get slammed unnesescarily, its about time i really put my words in.

Love Congo!

Tim Curry, Ernie Hudson, the 30 seconds we saw Bruce Campbell, and sesame cake; That's about it for me.

Too clichéd, especially Tim Curry's character. And I guess they couldn't get a big enough budget to use CGI gorillas instead of people wearing monkey suits. Imagine what Spielberg could have done with this. Frank Marshall tries valiantly to emulate his boss, but his direction is too formulaic. And the special effects are right out of Univeral Theme Park. I would think that, in the wake of "Jurassic Park", there would have been better resources available to make it look more like a 90s sci-fi adventure instead of a Roger Corman B-movie.

reply

I thought Tim Curry was the best thing about it. He managed to bring it some fun. The others were all so serious.

And the movie isn't that bad. It is an entertaining B-flick that keeps you entertained.

Descent B movie. Picked this up at the pawn shop for $1.50, what a deal.

im not really shocked at the hate - ive seen better movies get worse hate, and worse movies get serious love on this site. I love this movie - the story, the action, the characters, and just seeing one of my favorite crichton books brought to life(granted, with ALOT of changes) was worth it. i didnt care for tim curry in it, honestly, except for rare occasions, he always irritates me - i know ill get some hate for this, but i dont care; with the exception of a few very good performances(one being in a couple episodes of criminal minds in recent years), ive always considered him as being a pretty mediocre actor, and in this movie, it shows. on the flip side, i love laura linney and ernie hudson - not that they are great actors, either, but i enjoy them far more, in most of the stuff i have seen them in. back on topic - this movie is awesome - it does depart in major ways from the story - making munro black(minor), and changing ross from a cold, merciless, genius to a love-struck women chasing down her fiancee(major change) as well as taking away most of the great appeal of the apes from the book. it is enjoyable, like someone else said, because its a pure popcorn flick - very little, if any, thinking is required - it just basically says "kick back, relax, and watch this movie - we dont care if u think deeply, just watch and enjoy it" thats the essence - if u do that, and ignore the many flaws, its absolutely awesome. if u insist on picking it apart, than im sorry for u. now, that all said; i myself wish they would update the original book and give it a proper adaptation - with the technology available today, they could make it rockin'!

step up or shut up!!!

I saw this when I was younger and I recall it as being good, I guess I might have a different opinion if I watch it today but I might pick it up one day for the nostalgia.
I even got the PC game as a birthday present a long time ago and it was a point and click adventure with a pre-rendered 3D world similar to the Myst series.
The game wasn't bad at all in my opinion, I thoroughly enjoyed it, though it felt really hard at the time :).

Yeah, if you don't mind the monkey massacre in the cave. This is a kids movie?
I was kidnapped by a pack of mimes. They performed unspeakable acts on me

I haven't read the novel but this film is the classic example of the guilty pleasure. The scenes with the laser-guided automated machine guns was pure popcorn-chomping fun. There's nothing wrong with hating this film but please offer some details.

"And I guess they couldn't get a big enough budget to use CGI gorillas instead of people wearing monkey suits."

Incidentally, one of the reasons the movie rocks and still rocks is because they didn't use CGI gorillas and put people in monkey suits. I thought the ape costumes were very well done.

I watched the movie in theaters with friends when it came out. Then thought it was a great movie but hell i was 13yrs old. Watched it lastnight not so impressed but im a stickler for accuracy like where did the damn air balloon come from. didnt see it on the rafts when they were going down the river but thats just me. the rating says it all either like it or not but it pretty much was decent in 95 but hell is 2013 can do more with bigger budgets and cgi.

CGI Alone dose not make a good movie. This was made in 1995. If it was made today they probably would be able to do CGI Apes. In 1995, Hell no. Reptiles don't have hair.

It's not a great movie, but it isn't bad.

A lot of people talk about this being unintentionally funny, but I think most of the comedy was intended.
