Wow, people this movie was NOT THAT BAD

Dear god, lol, i found this movie exciting and fun all the way through, if you want a BAD movie take a look at Blood Rayne, Or Timothy Hines War Of The Worlds, but in congo the acting was great, the story was interesintg, and yes I HAVE read the book, but as i sit here day by day and watching good movies get slammed unnesescarily, its about time i really put my words in.

Well, I agree; not only was this movie NOT THAT BAD, I thought it was PRETTY *BLEEPING* GOOD! I loved it. Humor, adventure, excellent special effects, great story line, likeable cast....I was just riveted the whole time I watched it, and yes, I saw it in theaters 'waaaaaay back then. I just can't find fault with the film. I watch it any time it's on TV, premium movie channel or fouled with commercials on network/cable channels. One of these days, if I ever have a spare dime, I'm going to buy it on DVD, lol.
I loved the part where all the guys started singing 'California Dreaming.' Music is universal, eh?
I also thought that Tim Curry and Ernie Hudson were superb.
Great, great movie, too-little appreciated and understood!

Love me, love my

i know, this movie is cool. I read the book too and they're quite different, but I actually liked the film better.

reply

I loved this movie, but that is mainly due to nostalgia - a camp adventure movie which sucked, but was highly entertaining. It probably wouldn't hold its own if I saw it today, though.

After seeing the movie once I bought the DVD for a reason.
So yes it gets my vote as a good movie.

Not here to argue or change minds.
Just casting my vote.

I have the book but haven't read it yet... tryed but the only two books i like of michael's was Prey and the J.P. books... but i really like this movie 8/10

i was also surprised at how low the rating was. lol
i gave it a 6
Same here. I figured it would get at least 5 and a half.

I was probably 14 when I saw Congo. Even today I don't think it was a terrible movie. It's not cerebral, but it has adventure, fine directing, and a magnificent soundtrack. I give it a 3/5.

I completely agree with the OP. This is an entertaining and fun adventure movie and doesn't deserved to be trashed. Watch "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" before you rate this a 1 or 2.

Great fun to watch on TV but wouldn't buy it on DVD. Reminds me a lot of King Solomon's Mines meets Tombraider Cradle of Life.

I agree. It isn't a masterpiece, but it is great fun. Ernie Hudson and Tim Curry are the bright spots of the acting front, whereas some of the effects were a bit cheesy. Bethany

Well, i wouldnt call it Ok, but i wouldnt call it entirely bad to. I gave it 4/10, its a movie you can watch if there is nothing else to watch, but i wouldnt watch it twice. its enough to watch it once.
I think it couldve been better if it wasnt so silly..

I saw this movie in the theater when I was eleven and it blew me away! That entire summer was all about Congo, it filled my head with ideas of grand jungle adventures and fighting killer apes. While I'm older now and realize that the movie may be a little campy, I still love it to death. I love it because it didn't take itself too seriously while at the same time not being too showy or flashy in an attempt to please brain dead action junkies who care nothing for plot. When I was nineteen I worked at the same movie theater where I'd seen Congo, and I everyday I worked I thought about the wonderful childhood memories that this movies still brings to mind.

I haven't seen this movie in at least 10 years and I'm only here because I was looking up Westwords, which Crichton directed. But I do not remember hating this movie. It was corny, but I remember kind of enjoying it.

Definitely NOT THAT BAD. I love this film too. I really don't get where the hate comes from. This proves we live in an unjust world!

I also like The Island of Dr. Moreau.

These kinds of movies should be taken in the right spirit. It's a hoot.
