Wow, people this movie was NOT THAT BAD

Dear god, lol, i found this movie exciting and fun all the way through, if you want a BAD movie take a look at Blood Rayne, Or Timothy Hines War Of The Worlds, but in congo the acting was great, the story was interesintg, and yes I HAVE read the book, but as i sit here day by day and watching good movies get slammed unnesescarily, its about time i really put my words in.

I love Congo and I love Island of Dr. Moreau!

reply

I agree!! I enjoyed the movie! It was NOT THAT BAD! Congo was cool!

what the *beep* is wrong with u ppl, this movie has some of the worst effects ever. its like jurrasic parks ugly cousin

I find this film enjoyable, but do agree that it is a less savory adaptation of a Michael Crichton film.

reply

The Gorillas were originally going to be CGI, but not enough progress had been made to render realistic hair, so they decided to use costumes instead. Overall I thought it was a flawed but really enjoyable adventure flick.

reply

I think I would prefer the people in costumes. Practical effects, when done well, are timeless. CGI becomes dated usually within the decade it was released in, since CGI keeps getting better and better, it becomes easier and easier to distinguish.

reply

This movie is beyond bad..... same unwatchable mid 90´s *beep* as ANACONDA or THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU......!

reply

Interesting, as I enjoy all 3 of those movies.

I Really like 'Congo'. Great performances by Laura Linney ("Put 'em on the endangered species list"), Ernie Hudson, Tim Curry, Joey Pants and Delroy Lindo.

'Anaconda' is not as good a movie, but Jon Voight's performance needs to be seen.

'Dr. Moreau' is terrible, but Brando and Kilmer make it SO DAMNED entertaining.

i agree with you 100 percent. This movie was really good and had great music too. My theory was right on this one. The people that hated it the most are aged under 18. If you saw this movie at an older age for the first time, you'd be impressed. I'm sick and tired of seeing the topic "Worst movie of all time." that topic is in every forum. This movie is no where near Uwe Boll films. Congo rocks 7/10

ROFLMAO UNDER 18??? I think you've got it backwards. People under 18 are impressed by special effects and care less about things like inane dialogue and formulaic plotlines.

I agree with you. I remember seeing this at the theater when I was younger and enjoying it. Just saw it again for the first time since my youth the other night and could not get past the cheesiness and bad acting. That Laura Tinney or whatever is just not a good actress, neither were either scientists. Actually, only Ernie Hudson and Delroy Lindo were any good IMO

I disagree about the under-18 part. I saw this as a teenager for the first time, maybe at twelve or thirteen, and I did like the movie. Ok, even back then I knew it wasn't GREAT, but it was entertaining, alright. I still think it is, it's a nice mix of adventure and horror elements, and at least they tried to make a somewhat more original story than your average monster-slays-teenagers plot.

Really, there's worse movies than this. Just take it for the fun movie that it is and don't expect too much, and you'll be fine with it ;)

reply

Surprised at the low score, really enjoy this movie. Both when I was younger, and after just viewing it now.

No, I think he was correct.

WHAT THE *beep*?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? If you are older than 18 and found this movie exciting then good for you and take care.

reply

Sorry but Congo is a BAD movie. BUT, a bad movie I thoroughly enjoyed. Just because a movie is bad, and Congo is, doesn't mean you can't enjoy it.

reply

If you enjoy a movie then it is a good movie. Everyones got a particular taste and that is why variety exists. I like this movie its not a grand master piece of film making but it entertains and it has some very clever jokes as posted on another thread in this forum.

reply

Don't think that's true. Brando's 'Dr. Moreau' is a terrible movie, but I enjoy it immensely.

4.3/10.

i think it's better than the rating shows.

it's been a while since i seen it but i would say 6/10 myself.... nothing great but nothing bad.

reply

Action-adventure monster movies always get bad ratings. Basically, some people feel that no movies should ever be made for this genre again because Alien, Jaws and Jurassic Park were already made.
"That's enough!"
"No more!"
Every other movie in the genre that comes out will get slammed for "copying" one of those 3 movies. When really they are quite different.

So fans of the genre are just supposed to be happy with those 3 movies? No! that's why they continue to make these creature features. And the same people who hated the first ones after Jurassic Park still hate the ones that come out today.

And actually Congo doesn't get slammed that much for copying, I am posting this in the wrong board, this is really in reply to movies like The Cave, Primeval and Anaconda.

There are like 5,000 movies about a guy falling in love with a girl, but there aren't supposed to be more than 3 movies about a creature killing people. How dare they try that again!

(My sarcasm can be confusing)

reply

I think it deserves a score more around 6.6 then this terrible 4.3, congo is a pretty well done movie.

Don't ever call me a kubrick hater, or I will have my droogs beat you to death.

reply

The last time i checked this movie was a 5.6.

reply

... or maybe we want action movies of the same caliber as Jurassic Park, Alien and Jaws.

How can you possibly put Congo in the same category as these fantastic movies?

reply

I really like 'Congo'. I love Amy, and I really like Ernie Hudson's and Laura Linney's characters. And special guest Joey Pants. "Put 'em on the endangered species list."

Speaking as an adult I think that this movie would probably entertain kids , but adults, not so much .

It wasn't bad for what it was, but I wouldn't recommend it to most grown ups .

Very "Disney " .

reply

Not brilliant or even good, but these movies of the 90s are much better than most of the big-budget cgi crap they produce nowadays...

reply

i saw this since i was a kid so perhaps i am being a bit biased and watch it as a novelty, but i really think the acting in Congo is great - not like some of those action/thriller/horror movies that rely on one ego-driven actor who overracts the whole "hero" role - the characters here are so much more convincing.

and to that person who said Island of Dr Moreau was crap, IT ROCKED THIS (BLEEP) lol!

reply

Slammed unnecessarily?! Are you kidding me? I only lasted 45 minutes before walking out of the theater. I love B movies, but not when I have to pay theater prices to see them. Someone else mentioned MST3k - this junk definitely deserved treatment by Joel and the bots.

reply

Not great, not the worst; just to be taken for what it is.
It helps if you like the actors - which I do incl. Bruce C, and disregard the talking gorilla (evidently tapping her shoulder can mean almost anything it wants).
Sometimes you just have to go along for the ride, or get off and let others enjoy it.
Not being mean - just the way we should all be - different strokes for different blokes you know.

reply

This movie was by no means Mst3k worthy. Mst3k worthy puts me in the mind of D and F movies, NOT B movies. sheesh!

reply

I dug it! Thought it was a wonderful movie... But then again, I also love any movie Ed Wood was involved in... lol >:o)

reply

I really like this movie but I haven't seen it in a long time. Its a good watch for kids/younger people I think.

reply

I agree it's fairly good at what it wants to do, nothing more or less. Entertainingly junky is a good way of putting it, I think.
