What the fkcin hell is that lyrical, American-written cr4p about? The film needed writing by a Scot (based upon Blind Harry), not an American writing for the Scots.
The Scots are a great, poetic and tough people with fantastic humour- proven great fighters in war, but this film has been criticised even by many Scots! Lol
I was however, very impressed by the film upon first viewing.

There used to be an Imdb user called Rossymclynn or some other gay name, that always defended this film with the lamest excuses.
In my opinion it's not much in need of a defense. If it's not a great film, then it's at least a very good one.
I'm sure you can criticize any number of historical inaccuracies, but for me that has little to do with the skill and craftsmanship that went into the movie, and the resulting entertainment value.
I'm afraid this entire film was just an ego trip for Mel Gibson. 80% of it is fiction, and a lot of the costumes look cheap and crappily made. The only good [and ironic] thing that ever came out of this movie was people taking an interest in Scottish history...and then finding out how much of Mel Gibson's movie was BS.
shareA hell of a lot of people have watched this movie and enjoyed it, so you might count that as something good that came out of it. It has an 8.3 on IMDB and an 85% audience score on RT, so you can't say it's not a crowd-pleaser.
