In the 2000s and 2010s, there was no more widely accepted opinion than that Batman and Robin was one of the worst movies ever made. And while Joel Schumacher's preceding Batman film Batman Forever was spared a lot of this hatred by the culture, my teenage ass thought it was just as bad. But the tide seems to be shifting for Schumacher's Batman films. In the 2020s, it's not uncommon to hear defenses for Batman Forever and Batman and Robin, from the modest to the fiercely passionate. With that in mind, it's time for me to return to the much maligned superhero films, examining the nature of the hatred they received, their place in the context of the modern superhero movies and Batman movies, and evaluate where I personally stand on the films.

The films were looney toons cartoons built to sell toys.

Yet I’ll take those films over Nolan’s boring ass “reality shows” any damn day.

Batman Forever is fine. Not as good as the previous two, but I came out of the cinema having enjoyed it and Kilmer did a great job. It's a shame that he didn't stick around. Batman & Robin otoh is utter crap.
