Why is this film not on the top 250
This is one of the finest films ever made. Why does it not make the top 250? Shawshank Redemption? Sure, good movie, but it's no babe.

shareYeah, totally deserves top 250! Definitely one of the finest.
shareNot only should it be in the top 250, but it deserves much better than its current rating. It's a seamless little fable, that is lovingly made, uplifting, charming and an all time classic. Must be because it's a "kids" movie...sigh.
share1. I think Babe should be in the top 250.
2. To the guy who mentioned E.T., it lost all credibility as a film when Spielberg did the walkie-talkie for shotguns switch.
P.S. I'm under 30, barely.

Herv3, if you're not pulling our legs, you're my stereotypical IMDB user. Male aged 18 to 30 with a taste for action and guns. I have that taste too, but only to a degree.
E.T. loses credibility for lack of guns?! Did the scene in Babe where the shotgun was almost used make that movie more credible/enjoyable?
Better stick to the Matrix/Kill Bill drivel (my opinion of course) for now.
It has nothing to do with a need for guns. My favorite movie from 2009 was Up in the Air. Not the gun happy District 9, Avatar or The Hurt Locker. It's just the idea to change the movie after the fact for some kind of demented politically correct reasons. It's like watching a movie on cable and a great scene is butchered because of the FCC.
shareOK Herv. I appologize for trying to judge your basis of opinion.
Up in the Air was good.
Sorry the changes to ET spoiled it for you.
I believe we feel the same though - about Babe.
Cheers!
On the IMDB Top 250, films such as "Fight Club" and "The Dark Knight" rank higher than the likes of "Psycho", "A Clockwork Orange", "Taxi Driver", "To Kill A Mockingbird" (okay, none of those are anything like the movie in question, but you get my point) and countless others. That should give you an idea of who the Top 250 is geared towards (and who the majority of its voters are). And therein lies the answer to this thread.
I just watched 'Babe' on TV last night and was reminded of how amazing it was. Looked it up on here and was shocked that the rating wasn't higher. But then I remembered where I was.
Totally agree with the OP, one of the finest movies, it touched me very deep honestly. Also, I agree with you Morbida, I can't tolerate seeing Fight club in a very high ranking! WTF! But yes I remember where I am. =S
shareI agree that the top 250 is rubbish and that this film should definitely be on there. As someone else stated it's probably usually young men 18-30 who vote. I didn't personally like Shawshank much but to be fair, I haven't seen the film chronologically, only in bits and pieces, so it's probably not fair to judge.I just don't really pay much attention to the voting on here now and just take it with a pinch of salt...Can't believe ET isn't on there even though I don't like it much. It always being voted one of the best family films ever.
shareFor those doubting Babe, the film has a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, which becomes 100% when narrowed down to the top critical reviews.
shareI think Babe is a masterpiece, it's one of the finest family films ever made.
I'm not sure if I agree with it being better than The Shawshank Redemption (and I say this as Shawshank and Babe being two of my favourite films), since they are completely different movies and comparing the two is pointless. But I was surprised to see this film only had a 7.1 rating on here. It should definitely be in the top 250. I was obsessed with this movie when I was a kid, and even as a young adult now, I'm still in love with it! I could watch it a million times and never get sick of it.
Not that there's anything wrong with that!
now it has a 7.0. i was surprised to. 7.0 is good but thought it would be higher. was it ever in the top 250? i mean a movie like "GO" was at one point. now it isn't so i imagine Babe was at some point

Toy Story, Monster's Inc., and Ratatouille are among the finest family films to date. I don't understand your hate for Pixar.
Did you exchange a walk on part in the war, for a lead role in a cage?
Hmm, I do see where he's coming from though. Though I do think the Toy Story films and Monsters Inc. are incredible, I just don't feel the same love for Finding Nemo or Ratatouille. They're good films, but I even consider many Disney films a lot better (or maybe that's just nostalgia).
As for who said the Green Mile is better than Shawshank... Hooray! I agree as well. Shawshank is a great movie, but I prefer Green Mile by a longshot.
As for E.T. Well, I shamefully have to admit that that movie does nothing to me. Don't like it, don't care for it.
Babe is an excellent film and deserves far better than it's current rating. Top 250. Perhaps. I should probably make my own top 250 before I can decide that, but it would be at least very close.
