I thought he (Bill Paxton's "Simon" character) said...

... I'm MALEVOLENT rather than NAVEL LINT lol like he really said.

And that the next line was "I am polite to women to get laid" whereas in actuality the line was "I have to lie to women to get laid", lol.

Also. As much as he was a douche sleaze bag, did Arnie and co. REALLY have to threaten him at gunpoint because of it, what if they accidentally killed him?

only reason to watch this mediocres film is to watch bill paxton. he steal the show!! great actor. light up every scene with his presence. great man, great actor!! he deserve to be in better film than this.

reply

Did you seriously just call this movie mediocre?

reply

Of course he didn't "have to" threaten him. But the entire first and second act is shouting at you that Harry is going to do whatever he wants, risk or rules be damned.

This is a guy who wanted to jump a horse off a rooftop. This is a guy who got into a shootout in a public bathroom with innocent civilian in immediate danger. This is a guy who used his agency resources to spy, scam, and get back with his wife. This is a guy who told the jets to fire their missiles at the nuke on the bridge. This is a guy who stole a military jet and flew it into a populated city, shooting down a helicopter over city streets in the process. This is a guy who tilted a jet 45 degrees with his daughter dangling on the nose of it.

Honestly, pointing a gun at Paxton was probably one of the least reckless things he did. 🤣

reply

But in the end, he was still a good guy hero. Even when his wife questioned him about whether he killed anyone, his reply was "Yeah but they were all BAD".

reply

Above all of this, however, did anyone else at first think that THOSE were the lines Paxton said, "malevolent" instead of "navel lint" and "polite" instead of "have to lie"? That's just the way I HEARD it first. :)

Besides, I rarely if ever heard, no matter for what reason, a person refer to themselves, or someone else for that matter, as "NAVEL LINT". That was the very first for me.

reply

When watching it as a kid I thought it was navalant. I assumed it was just another word for lame. I didn't misunderstand those other lines.

reply

Hah, exactly the same here. I thought "navalant" was some word that was outside my vocabulary at the time that indicated that he has some kind of medical disfunction or malformation.

reply

Subtitles exist for a reason.

reply

I first watched this movie in the mid 90s on video, no subtitles then. :)

reply

To be fair, I've found subtitles often get lines wrong.

reply

Lol for the longest time I always thought he said "I'm involent!"

reply

But they didn't kill him. They were professionals.

reply

We know mate :) :) :)

reply

What is navel lint?

Yes they did go overboard, Helen was mainly the one to blame, she could've told him to go away, but they just put those scenes in for dramatic impact.

Says a lot for how talented Bill Paxton is that he makes you feel sorry for him even when he plays sleazeballs.
