Every bit as good as the original

A wonderful update. See both movies, you won't be disappointed in either.

Very true. The new version was able to capture the magic of the original while being able to give it an updated and current look and story.

I agree . The only thing I didn't like was the change of the resolve of the court room seen with the dollar bill and " In God we trust". Nothing beats all the postal workers dumping thousands of letters on the judges desk.

I like it too, but i guess in the world of E-mail more then regular mail, they probably felt that a new generation would be able to relate to it better if they did it this way.

In 1994 email was still mostly used by government and businesses. It's unlikely children or even most adults would have been able to relate to it.

I agree. I first the original version when I was about 17. Then a year or so later this version came out. I thought they were both great but I actually like this one better. I do admit though that it is worth seeing both versions.

You've got to be kidding! The original 1947 was magical and heartwarming. This version isn't proper for young children. Too far off course. Very dark.

100% agree. I grew up on the original and I remember seeing this in movie theaters. At the time I was still a kid so I was bias towards the original. Just didn't see the point in a remake to it maybe.

Anyway, I saw this one when I got older and now I'm like wow this is actually really good. Very true to the original and a solid remake. I enjoy it a lot. This rating should be higher.

Please, please let me know what you're smoking, because I want some.

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

The original is no masterpiece either...

Spoiler alert! There is a single scene in each movie which is, it seems to me, the best scene in both movies, and it's the same scene. In the first movie, a little dutch girl comes to visit Santa. Mom tells Santa that the little girl speaks no English but still wants to see Santa. Delightfully, Santa starts talking to the girl in Dutch, and they even sing together. In the new movie it's a deaf kid, who Santa speaks to in sign language. I guess I'm a soft touch, because these scenes bring tears to my eyes.

I think in the original, it's implied that the Dutch girl was adopted by an American family after being orphaned during the war, which magnifies it.
But yeah, the scene in the remake with the deaf girl gets me every time, especially the way her mom says "thank you" at the end
