Every bit as good as the original

A wonderful update. See both movies, you won't be disappointed in either.

Fully agree! I honestly do not get all these vehement posters trashing this remake. If you prefer the older version, that's cool--it's a classic for a reason. But this one is just as good, and I say that as someone who is not particularly a fan of John Hughes. The kid is adorable and all the adult principals are great as well. It's really annoying when hipsters trash remakes just because they fetishize older movies. There's room for both.

Dorey Walker: " Hi. I believe you have something of mine. "
Bryan Bedford: " About 4 feet tall, brown hair and talks like she's 64 years old?"

Just a sample of some of the great dialogue in this film.

I think some aspects are better than the original, other aspects are weaker. Overall they even each other out so "every bit as good" is a fair assessment
