Is Forrest Gump only hated today because...

It beat out Pulp Fiction and Shawshank Redemption for best picture in 1994?

No, I think time simply hasn't been kind to it. This is a film most average moviegoing audiences love, that is also largely despised by the more critical consumers of film. The main point the latter always brings up, is how deeply flawed the movie's morals are, and how it essentially promotes conformity and rails against individuality. It's a movie that as you are watching it, you enjoy because of its simple, quaint charm and unabashed sentimentality, but as you begin to think about it, your cynicism and pragmatic views of the world tends to almost always reveal its simple-minded naivety and anti-intellectual message.

It's essentially the more successful version of James Cameron's Avatar. Both were giant monster hits that blew us all away with their state-of-the-art VFX and unmitigated emotional storytelling, yet are also deeply flawed and rather simplistic if you really sit down and analyze it. It's just that this one took longer for people to see through for its flaws than Avatar.

I feel like everything written here is kind of crazy and is the complete and utter definition of having way too much free time on your hands to think so hard about this movie. Like what you wrote here just feels like a crazy person trying to sound like he's smarter than most everyone in the world.

Gump was the best picture. PF really cool movie, but not a best picture. Shawshank not a best picture. Total rip-off off Escape from Alcatraz.

THREE CLASSICS FROM 1994 IN MY BOOK...EQUALLY AMAZING FILMS.

Never knew it was hated either. It certainly is better than Pulp Fiction imo but The Shawshank Redemption was a very very good film, I agree!

No, it’s a bad movie and as a runner if one more person yells “run Forrest run” at me again I am going to blow my brains out.

Run Forrest, run!

Only by the OP...as far as I can figure. Must be someone who, having nothing better to do, likes to come on these pages and say stuff just to get a reaction. Must be very lonely.

Basically yes which is a little sad. If people genuinely don't like the film that's fine. But fi you only hate it because of the other two then i don't know what to tell you. I love all three myself
