That girl can't act her way out of a paper bag! Don't get me wrong, I think this is one of the funniest movies ever made, but her acting is so bad you almost wonder if she's doing it on purpose.
Her acting in this movie is some of the worst I've seen, tho I love this movie too. When she utters the line,"I'm always flattered when a psychotic becomes smitten with me" I just wanted to cringe and make her go away.
She has come a long way, however, and seems to be more suited for dark, off the wall stuff like Push Nevada, Magnolia, Big Love and even Cold Mountain.
As horrible as she is in many of her roles, I always find myself inexplicably drawn to her....
DON'T OVERLOOK THE FACT THAT SHE IS ACTING IN WHAT IS BASICALLY A FARCE IN 3 ACTS. THAT IS NOT EASY FOR A YOUNG ACTRESS TO PULL OFF -- ESPECIALLY GIVEN THE CLEAR DEMAND FOR DROP DEAD LOOKS WET AND IN A BATHING SUIT. HER 'UNACTING'MAY HAVE BEEN INTENTIONAL GIVEN THE OVERT (ALBEIT EFFECTIVE) COMIC POSES OF SOME TALENTED CHARACTER ACTORS WHICH MADE THE FILM WORK -- BUT ONLY FOR THOSE WHO RECOGNIZED A FARCE WHEN THEY SAW ONE...... POSE AND EXAGGERATION ARE PART OF THE FUN ... EITHER ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM OR ON THE GOOD SHIP "FILTHY WHORE" /////////
I'm pretty sure her acting like that was meant to weird like that. The way she talks to Nathanial when she falls in love with him is overly cheesey & that has to be intentional. If this was a serious movie then I would say it was bad acting.
