Which character remained most consistent throughout the entire run?
I say Rachel and to a lesser extent Ross. Almost all the other characters changed drastically.

shareJoey. as Dumb on Season 1 Episode 1 as he was on Season 10.
Although I will admit I was impressed when he put the clues together and figured out Chandler and Monica were together. Probably the first time in his life he put 2 & 2 together and didn't get 5.
That´s not quite true. He wasn´t that dumb in season 1. I think maybe half way through season 1 or beginning of 2, they made him super dumb and it kinda got worse as the show went on, culminating with the Joey speaking French episode.
shareYeah, well Ross was clearly written as a romantic loser loner kinda type in season 1.
That also changed a lot.
Rachel was similar in character till season 10, but she went onto some incompatible adventures for the stuck up spoiled daddy's girl she was in season 1.
I also second Joey, he stayed the most true to his personality, but I agree with you, his level of stupidity changed a lot from uneducated but street smart in season 1 to complete idiot by season 5. This happens a lot to "stupid" characters on sit coms, through the episodes they tend to do things that are unreasonably stupid.
True. He jumped from ‘What are you talkin about ‘one woman’?’ to ‘It’s my identical hand twin!’ in a remarkably short space of time.
Chandler, Ross and Rachel pretty much stayed the same.
Phone became less ditzy.
Joey became a mentally retarded person.
Monica completely transformed after getting with Chandler.
Agree with Monica. I'm on my Friends rewatch. She used to be one of my favs in the earlier seasons. But completely changed in S5. She got obsessive and more controlling.
shareKip
shareProbably Ross. Ross become more whiny as the show went on, but that was always a character trait of his.
Gunther
shareRachel, hands down.
