If this is not the greatest marriage of image + music tell me what is?

That amazing orchestral montage at the end. In terms of music, colour, arrangement, lighting, metaphor, expression, symbolism and pure style I don't think it will ever be beaten. Its such a powerful, emotional and devestating 5 minutes of cinema.

I think 2001: A Space Odyssey wins hands down, just on music alone.

For something a bit more recent I think There Will Be Blood (2007) deserves a mention. Not quite up there with Bleu, 2001, Barry Lyndon for me but still very impressive.

The end of L'eclisse (1962) is still the best.

I don't like this movie but I really like the ending music. It is fantastic.

1- Amélie (superb)
2- Wall-E (good)

It's certainly up there.

I must also mention Morricone's theme over the ending to Nuovo Cinema Paradiso and the Ride of the Valkyries scene from Apocalypse Now.
