Why isn't it called The Nightmare ON Christmas and why do the kids open the presents on Christmas Eve?

The presents should be opened on Christmas morning and so the kids would only then find out about the horrors and have nightmares on Christmas, not "before" Christmas.

How do you explain this

You simply can't

reply

I assume it was a play of words on the title of the 'Twas the Night Before Christmas poem.

reply

Because the kids are rotten and they wake up once Santa visits rather than wait for Christmas morning.

It depends on the family traditions. In my family presents from family and friends on Christmas Eve., never Christmas day. Christmas Day was for presents from Santa.

Christmas eve in most of Europe. My parents brought that over and that's when we opened presents in the 60s.

reply

I grew up in California and we always opened all of the presents on Christmas morning. My wife also grew up here, and she and her sisters were allowed to open one present on Christmas Eve, but had to wait until Christmas morning to open the rest. It's not law; families have different traditions.

Yep. No law as far as I know!

I grew up in the 60s, and it was always Christmas morning with all my friends and family, although I'm sure there were Eve openers somewhere.

Today, it might be closer to 50/50, but everyone in *my* family exchanges/opens gifts on Christmas.

reply

In my family, we always opened one present on Christmas Eve and the rest on Christmas morning.
