Could Daniel have been arrested for anything?

The most serious was violating a court order but is it against the law to pretend to be someone else?

reply

Well, there is this thing called identity theft, but that's probably not what you mean. And I have no idea what the laws are concerning ID theft.

The situation in this movie is understandable. He wasn't trying to scam anyone for money. He just wanted to see his children.

reply

It's not identity "theft". Theft from whom? There was no real person Mrs. Doubtfire.

reply

Pretty sure it’s somehow illegal to pretend to be someone else in order to gain entry into someone’s house.

I dont think he did anything that would get him jail time, but a real-life family court judge would have thrown the book at him.

The Court order established when he had visitation rights. But it did not prohibit him from seeing children at other times. It is not a restraining order.

However, I could see issues pretending to be someone else. He could be charged with fraud. Plus, exposing his children to this, could fall under some criminal statutes regarding children.

As an adult, my perspective on this film has changed somewhat. The truth is that he was very irresponsible and one needs to question if he is fit to be around children.

I don’t blame the judge or the mother for this.

He should’ve focused on improving himself (which he did as a consequence of being Mrs. Doubtfire). Then he would’ve been approved for joint custody and be able to spend more time with his children.

reply

Yes he could have been arrested for fraud, breaking a court order, identify theft and attempted murder.

reply

Identity Theft from whom? A fictitious character Mrs. Doubtfire? I doubt she's pressing charges :).

reply

Attempted murder: By dousing Stu's food with pepper that he knew ahead of time that Stu was allergic to since he heard Stu declare that he's allergic to pepper: Plus at the pool Dad/Doubtfire said, "Touch me again and I'll drown you, you bastard." Could be used as an argument for premeditation: Motive.

What is the punishment for a
“run-by fruiting”? Daniel should’ve been given the death penalty for that!🤣

I got the feeling that this thread/post was a trick question.
