Brian posting the ad on the college board?

Something I quite didn’t understood. Maybe I missed something. Early on in the movie we see David go to a random college and post his message ad (about needing a driver for his trip to help with gas) on a big ad board.

First; what college was that and why did he post it there?

Second; How did Brad Pitt’s character just so happen to walk in right after Brian moments later? What was Pitt doing at the college? I was confused. Are we to assume that Pitt was actually stalking and following Brian?

Lastly; Why exactly did Brian and his girlfriend Cassie need to find people to share expenses? They seem to be well off with money- They wear very stylish clothing, have expensive camera gear and live in an apartment the size of a football field. Was this a plot hole or just poor writing?

Brian’s a writer and Carrie’s a photographer, they likely met at that college. If you’re looking for people to share a ride, impoverished students are a good place to start.

Same reason why Early went to the board, looking for a ride share. Or he was was looking for a local job. Either way the college board is where it’s at.

Brian and Carrie had fallen on hard times so likely had an ‘every penny counts’ mindset. They likely rented the apartment when they were more successful. Or maybe the filmmakers took the Friends approach and put low-earners in an implausibly large apartment.

I understand that but everything just seemed a little too coincidental.

Why?

How so this was very common back in those days people posting all sorts on notice boards.

I had multi friends who would do it to share transport costs or a group to rent a vehicle.

Early was working at that place which is why he was around

If you was to use modern day way of things yes it would be ridiculous & I don't believe he would have been able to get a job at a place like this either but this was not modern day it was 30-40 years ago

Early's parole officer had arranged a job for him as janitor at the college. That's why early went there.
