The ending in the film is so haunting and breath-taking, it just knocks me out. The music, the crash, the episode playing out on the living room floor. I really cannot think of a better ending in movie history. Just incredible! And yes, I know, the whole film was great. It is just that the ending is so good!
Just to add my 2 cents worth of praise... I was alone in my apartment in NYC and as the movie ended I fell to my knees on the floor and sobbed for about 5 minutes. I had NEVER been moved like that before in a film! Wow! Other best tear-filled endings/moments for me: Awakenings, when Deniro starts to revert back to his comatose state. Ghandhi, when Kingsley tells the Hindu man (who has come into his room to say he has killed a muslim child) to go and find a Muslim child whose parents have been kileed and raise it as his own. The Constant Gardener, at the very end....no spoilers here. Cheers!
It's funny to read that others have had the same experience as me. Other movies have great endings, emotional endings, someone named Casablanca, etc... but Fearless, man, I have never just broke out bawling at a movie in my life like I did for this. There is some kind of very deep emotional wallop packed into the last 5 minutes, as the full force of the flashback is revealed, and how it ties in to the present, and the music builds underneath in a hypnotic drone. Incredible, one-of-a-kind movie experience.
It was indeed an incredible ending to a great movie. The music is what did it for me. I love classical music of all kinds, and music does give a movie it's strength. In case anyone's wondering what the ending music is, it's Henryk Gorecki's Symphony No.3: "Symphony Of Sorrowful Songs". Dawn Upshaw is the woman's voice you hear at the end credits.
It comes in 3 movements, and I managed to find, download and burn onto CD the 3rd movement. Just frustrates me that I couldn't find the first two movements as well. It's the most beautiful and haunting symphony movement I've ever heard in my life. Such music can move the heart powerfully, as it moved mine. Great film altogether. Weir is a genius.

I agree with most comments here, saying its the perfect ending for a perfect movie. There are many scenes in Fearless which are very emotional and brilliantly acted and make me all wet at the eyes but in this final one it's the combination of many elements which make it the satisfying finale it is: music is just in sync with the images like nothing I've seen before, and to think it wasn't even composed for film, also the editing is flawless, the lack of sound effects truly enhances the emotional impact. And of course the actor's reactions are all spot on. We feel their fears as vividly as them as this crash is happening. In one word: PERFECT.
Now I just want it on DVD here in Belgium. Of course Warner just ignored and forgot to release this film in my country....
there is perhaps no other film that made me think so much once the credits started to roll.
its the kind of film that sticks with you...i often think about the sense of fearlessness the main character experiences and wonder what it's like.
NB Yet another example of where NOT to look - the blockbuster list of top-grossing movies. this movie tanked back in the early 90's. typical just typical. - Shawshank anyone?
