It most likely would not have been allowed to have been made especially by a major Hollywood film production. The second story line about the cop is what made this feel most likely approved. A theory yet thoughts?
It's a long time since I saw it, but isn't part of the point that it turns out Douglas is not as good a guy (relatively, obviously he does some extreme things) as we first think? If we only saw it from his POV we'd never find that out.
That's correct. Bill always had an explosive trigger over trivial things even when married. After his wife divorced him, he kept on arriving too early or in the middle of the night without her consent or knowledge, which led to the restraining order, and had a history of calling her repeatedly. He didn't start any of this because his life fell apart, he was already like that and always played the victim card and absolved him self of any wrongdoing. He was a deluded and obsessive control freak. His boiling point simply happened to spill over after several years.
I'm always drawn to this movie -- I really need to watch it again. This is probably the most profound movie from the 1990s that I can think of. Not the best, but most profound.
It was shot and edited in such a way that made it seem eerily grounded in a way that film other films could capture. I think the only thing that really made me feel displaced was when he happened upon the Nazi guy or whatnot.
But otherwise, Falling Down was prescient in what would become a trend in modern day society -- especially Western society in relation to the persecution of straight White males.
I think that you're spot-on that they added the alternative viewpoints to "soften the blow" and villainise him more than he needed to be so that they could have their scapegoat in a guy that they can say was just always unhinged and crazy and deserved his fate, when in reality, he was driven to that point. Ironically, Joker is almost the exact same plot (down and out guy who can't keep a job who turns violent after being pushed around a lot in society) but doesn't sugar coat the societal effects it has on someone's mental well-being, and in many ways doesn't sugarcoat the violent response that people can be pushed to.
You do know it was directed by a liberal correct? I thought they couldn't make good films? Remember that crap you tried to tell me? Also straight white males targeted? Explain when they are the majority and make more money on average than black people do.
- the PATRIARCHY BAAAAAD
- make sure criminals in film are old white dudes
- modern slant of feminism: ALL MEN BAAAAAD! Need removed, we don't need them
- commercials: we must stop appealing to the vast majority of race in our contry of origin and maximize everyone ELSE
- relationship media: women, you don't want white men, you want any all OTHER men, white men BAAAAAD
- white men evil: capitalism BAAD. the best, most powerful nation created mostyl by white men patriarchy, respected by all others around the globe as a world leader, world's bad assest mility, global protecter .... BAAAD. built by capitalistic white men patriarchy, while stomping all all others! We still want to be you, copy you, achieve like you, but, YOU BAAAAD
- white men making all the greatest movies in the history of cinema, BAAAAD. must replace with everyone else - even when the movies do not do well at all, white men movies BAAAAAAD
Patriarchy is not narrowed down to white men. That's men you are talking about.
Funny no issues when most heroes in cinema were white. Now since you have to share the spotlight suddenly it's an issue. Majority of heroes in films are still white even currently.
Which commercials specifically?
Oh one of these idiots. You are upset that mixed race couples are more common than they were. Priceless.
Was what was done to the native Americans civilized? History isn't sugarcoated bud.
Plenty of diverse films do fine. Into the spider verse, black panther, across the spider verse etc.
I planned on complimenting you for taking the time to voice your take on it, but then you resorted to name calling "idiot" which ejects all credibility. Oh well.
I'm looking at it financially. BUSINESS level. You appeal to the biggest audience and in america... well, do the math. It's not racism, it's bottom line - how ALL businesses operate.
Note pile of woke movie failures trying to appeal to everyone, instead of a high paying audience. Is that racist? No, it's called smart business. You don't sell Parka's in Central Africa. That's fucking stupid.
So, yeah, making 90% of ALL commercial advertising about mixed race couples where they only make up 20%, is dumb. Make the ads 20%, make money.
Yeah I'm not buying that. Better to launch a preemptive strike in my book.
You do appeal to a wider audience by including different types of ethnicity in characters and heroes. Meanwhile whites still to this day make up the majority so your pont here makes no sense.
Not all woke movies are these lectures you right wing nutjobs try to say they are. There are bad ones yes but there are good ones. Like with anything! Expendables is a mans movie right? Badass action heroes, your favorite heroes in a film cool right? It was garbage! Now let's compare. Mad Max Fury Road is a feminist film. It's far and away a better crafted film than any piece of shit Expendables film is. You also ignored into the spider verse doing well. Obviously that struck an audience. Oh but wait don't make that because mixed lead and mixed race couple! Um yeah box office receipts and the reception prices you wrong. You only want to highlight this misses and ignore the successes. It's typical among idiots like you.
If it ain't white it ain't right. Go woke go broke. So that's why into the spider verse, across the spider verse, the batman, mad max fury road, and everything everywhere all at once were all bombs. Oh wait... While in the meantime the northman was a box office bomb. You ought to love that it's an all white cast no mixed person in sight. Oh wait it was a box office bomb!
