Two Major Plot Holes

Did it bother anyone else C's mother was suddenly gone after the 8 year gap?

Also why didn't the show the fate of Sonny's assassin?

To be fair I wrote this on 8/25/12, one day after watching the film for the first time on AMC.

I think the mother, played by the very attractive Kathrine Narducci, faded in importance at this point in the plot. Also, though Di Niro played a very important role as "C's" father, he too was seen quite a bit less often than in the first half of the film. I think that when Calogero becomes a teenager his parents are much less important to the story. And this is as it should be. By the time someone has made it to their teens their actions and decisions are much more informed by who they are than by what their parents want or expect from them.

I don't know that the fate of the son of the murdered man (Sonny's assassin) is all that important. He's either going to die at the hands of Sonny's crew or he'll end up in prison for murder.

Again, because this is primarily a "coming of age" story what happens to the shooter really isn't that important. It was more important that Sonny die and fulfill a prophesy that he made to Calogero.

Watta ya lookn here for?

Same could have been said about the bikers (thankfully not).
The bikers got the crap kicked out of them. Did any die from the beating? Would they come back in force? These questions weren't important to the story line and wasn't a plot hole.

A plot hole, IMHO, would be C calling Jane's brother a F-----g N***** and Jane was clearly hurt & disgusted by this, but moments later Jane seeks C out because her brother changed his story. C was like, "See? I told you!" And everything was all good and they kiss for the first time. Plot hole would be that this would never had happened after the N word incident. This would have been the end of the relationship especially for the time (1968) and it wouldn't have mattered that she liked Italians, or that C saved her brother's life. The N-word would have been the deal breaker. IMHO, C saying that is akin to a girl not unlocking the door for the man for him to get into the car as described by Sonny. As Sonny said, "This is only the tip of the iceberg". I could be wrong. I'm only seeing it from a black person's point of view. Probably just bad writing.

Actions speak louder than words bro. An insult is just hollow words. He stood up to his friends and helped save him. Its not what someone says, but the choices they make that are important.

As I later said when I quoted Sonny, it was just the tip of the iceberg. Sure, empty words to some, but you let that one go, then yeah, actions will speak louder than words late on. Hollow words or not, it's the intent behind the words that matter, and who said it. This was the guy she "liked" for crying out loud. Those were more than mere "empty words", bro.

Yeah, I agree.

Actually the whole C and Jane romance story was too fast. I mean they talked for 10 minutes and haven't gone on a date and C is like "I wanna be with you and I don't care what people think".

I could see that happening though (the romance happening "fast"). I can recall a few instances in my past where I hooked up during an event that was a bit chaotic or spontaneous, but at the same time, I had already had my eye on the girl, but never after insulting her. Ah the memories, and to be young.

If you think the romance was too fast then perhaps you've never seen a romance between 17 year olds :)

i figured she either died or ran away with someone else.

Again, these aren't plot holes. Whatever happened to them is left to the viewer's imagination - even if they are unimportant to the story.

Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!

reply

Neither is a plot hole, I suggest you learn what the term plot hole actually means.

reply

Please look up the meaning of 'plot hole'.

'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings.
