Could use a remake.

Really interesting story, but damn, that writing and acting...

But what's this got to do with the CIO?

Agreed, a great story. The crash scene was done extremely well, I thought, and the screenplay suffered most from poor dialogue. Ironically, a lot of it was lifted directly from the book, but the film, being a visual medium, could not provide the context the book did, and as a result some of he lines come off either silly or wooden or worse.

The film will never be "remade" though, as I explained in a post on an earlier thread, which I will link to below. The last two paragraphs explain why permission to remake it will not be given.

I understand that compared to Books, movies do tend to suffer... for many reasons... and this MOVIE is no different, But...

I really do hope the OP is just kidding about wanting a remake...

This movie was made... based on a book... BASED ON THE REAL EVENT.

As I understand, even though this is still just a MOVIE, it is fairly close to what really happened... They even had at least ONE of the survivors as a Technical Advisor during production...

So... I just don't understand how a "Remake" can make this True "Story" any better.

Besides, Most remakes are worse than the original...

"I just don't understand how a "Remake" can make this True "Story" any better."

A remake could have better writing, directing, acting, cinematography, etc., etc.

I think a lot of the actors in that film did a nice job (some didn't), but I didn't love the movie. The part up to the crash was very good, but the rest was iffy. The special that The History Channel did is much better, as are the extras on the Alive anniversary edition and in Stranded.

The beef I have with Titanic is the one of the same beefs I have here. They left out REAL things - tragic, dramatic things - and added in stupid stuff that didn't happen because...why? Because they don't think the ACTUAL story is dramatic enough?

God forbid they just tell the real story.

And Ethan Hawke as Nando...ugh. Please.

A remake would be welcome IF and only if it were done well and true to the actual story.

reply

They should remake it with Uruguay actors or at least latinos (like from Argentina they have the same accent, other latinos have a noticeably different accent. But it'd be better than Americans!) But of course Hollywood wants a familiar face otherwise no one will watch it..

So go on. Kiss me. Kill me. Do something.

You’re in luck, a new movie is in the works, with Uruguayan actors, by the director of The Impossible.

reply

Really? That’s interesting.

reply

It will be on Netflix in just a few months. It looks great.

This is the remake!

I saw the original when I was a kid, very early seventies. Parents took me to the drive in and was traumatized by the story
It stayed with me my whole life, the fascination of their will to live. Got to meet Nando on a few occasions at his speaking engagements. I also met Canessa.

That's cool! I saw Alive as a kid and I've been fascinated with this incident since then. There is a new movie coming out soon called Society of Snow. It looks great.

reply

Apparently it is.

reply

It's great. Better than Alive.

reply

Agreed
Documentary feel played out as a movie
Outstanding

I always enjoyed this film. I first saw this on an airport lounge when I was a kid about to fly halfway across the world.

There's a remake that I did not expect to be as good as it was. I'm glad they focused on Numa I stead of Nando. Numa was not featured here and the one who kicked the window open after the avalanche was Numa and now Nando. And it was here that he was injured.

I'm glad a non American made it and stuck closer to the truth and characters of the survivors and those who died. If it was remade in Hollywood today, they would've made them all atheists and agnostics and made them all woke wasps. They did the same with Tolkien.
