Anyone else thinks this is Tarantino's best work...

... and consider this debut to be his best? I do.

reply

Sorry, I kind of meant to ask, and consider this debut of his to be their FAVORITE film of his?

reply

Absolutely. It only went downhill from here. Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown are still great, though.

reply

I'd add True Romance to the list, even if he didn't direct it.

reply

I would agree. This is the one movie of his that I can go back to and watch it start to finish every few years and enjoy it.

reply

Yep, this then Pulp Fiction as a close second for me.

reply

No, but I can see why someone would; it's a great film.

For me it's Inglourious Basterds. I feel like, more than any other Tarantino, IB had something to say. It's questioning the morality of violence and what's acceptable, even in warfare, and it's (ballsy move) questioning violence as entertainment. IB dove into morality without getting preachy. I felt like it went deeper than his other films did. Then, of course, it's just filled with brilliant cinema. The opening scene alone would put it in my top 3 Tarantinos of all-time. But he also gave us the bar scene, Aldo speaking "Italian", Shoshanna's arc...it's just awesome from end-to-end.

But, again, Reservoir Dogs is awesome from the word "Go" until the word "Stop", too, so if that's your jam, more power to you.

It’s one of his more overrated. It’s really cartoonish and a ripoff of the Chow Yun Fat, Hong Kong crime movie “City of Fire” 1987

reply

Not at all. It's his worst.

I"m going to say yes, this is Quentin's best work. Pulp Fiction is his 2nd best but not as good as Reservoir Dogs because there's a few too many characters that don't add much to the film such as Christopher Walken, Harvey Keitel, his girlfriend, Quentin himself, etc. Yes, Quentin is in Reservoir Dogs as well but the rest of the characters were great.
