No, this was a pale imitation of the original, which was the 'Miracle on 34th Street' of modern Christmas films.

I wouldn't say better, but it was a fun sequel. In my opinion, anyway. The only things I didn't like were

The family of Kevin was even dumber and more unbearable in this movie than the first.

The Bandits were actually GOING to KILL Kevin! I understand being angry, but they brought it on themselves. Other than that, I loved it!

Yeah, it is a fun sequel despite not being as good as the original. The scenes in the plaza hotel are among the strongest, especially anything with Tim Curry and the other clerks.

The stuff with Kevin’s family and the hotel staff are better in the 2nd one, but the first film is better overall, especially with the more “home at Christmas” feel and the emotional impact of Old Man Marley at the end.
