This may sound like a stupid question but is this movie a real documentary of a murderer, or is it a movie set up to mimick a documentary?

Anyways, I don't think it's that americans are unintelligent. You just tend to be very mis-educated and mis-informed. So it's not your fault. Whenever I visit the USA - a country that I love as well as it's people - watching at max 1 hour of TV makes me feel like Truman that lives in different reality. The TV shows the French president and repeats something he said, but when you watch the 'original' speech in the original language (something that happens so in Europe, speeches mostly ain't dubbed here), it's not really the same. More of a manipulated interpretation.

Well, there's some footage that's real (none of the violent scenes, though), while shooting the dinner scene and when Ben is visited by his mother when he's in prison, his family didn't know that it was to be used in a film. They just thought it was raw footage.

It's a fake documentary and they now call that genre mockumentary (you found out by now, considering all the posts!). I was really shocked and pleasantly surprised on an intellectual level I guess, seeing it in the cinema when it first got released. I recently saw it again on DVD, and it's still a strong movie. Funny I don't know, but weird o yeah.

This has to be one of the funniest threads. The OP asked a Q that invites mocking, never returns, then everyone else descends into bashing the nationality of anyone else who happens along. Meantime, a bunch of people delete, or are deleted, making some of the thread incomprehensible. I LOVE such chaos!!

its real .yes. the film is real. i saw it 20 years ago and i was really upset, so its real enough for me...and i guess its real enough for you so its enough...
