Sharon was supposedly 30, she looked at least 40+

I always notice how nowadays 40 years old look like 30 or even younger when you compare them with people from the last century: in the 80s at 40 you were a woman, middle aged, almost considered old.

Well, Sharon Stone is supposedly 30 in Basic Instinct (she was 33 while shooting), yet she dresses like a mature woman, does her hair like a middle aged woman, and behaves like the best of her years are past her. I bet part of her femme fatale allure is that she's "that old" and yet is not married nor with kids. The only thing she does that doesn't scream "over the hill" is banging (in a very ordinary kind of way too, although the movie tries to sell it as some out of this world sex).

Do you think it's the movie that strangely portrays a 30 year old female as a "woman" (instead of a girl), or is it me/us in 2019, that we strangely still behave like teenagers after our 30s and well into our adulthood?

Now excuse me but I have to go play with my ps4/dick:-)

She looked 33. No longer a teen or college gal, but not yet a cougar in her 40s.

Women in their 40s are no cougars unless they have 3 kids and smoke and drink and don't do sports.
Otherwise they look and behave like girls or milfs.
Cougars start at 50.

'Cougars' start at age 40, brah:

“Cougars” are popularly defined as women in their 40s (or older) who date significantly younger men, generally at a 10-year age gap or more.

Well that definition is outdated and needs an update for current women.

If a 29 year-old dude dates or marries a hot 41 year-old woman, she's a 'cougar.'

'Nuff said.

reply

'Nuff said, I agree.

I think you're onto something. A lot of women try to stay in their twenties when they reach 30 like dressing as if they are in a rock band or something. Very few women dress maturely outside of work.

I remember coming across a meme which compared Jennifer Lopez at 50 with Rue McClanahan (The Golden Girls) at 50. Jennifer looks younger because she exercises more, drinks less booze, and doesn't smoke. That's another thing - we see less smoking going on these days.

Certainly a healty lifestyle plays a big role with looking young.
But I think it's also the mentality that has changed drastically.

The longer you backtrack, the shorter the life span, life expectancy, ad above all reproductive window.
Nowadays women and mn start thinking about kids and family well in their 30s or even 40s. 50s if they are celebrities like Naomi Campbell and others, which would have been unbelievable just 20 years ago.

reply

Especially Brigitte Nielsen who gave birth to her daughter at the age of 54.

reply

Yes, and many others.
Janet Jackson and Rachel Weisz etc.
In '92 if you were 30 and without a kid, and got pregnant after, you were already considered an old mom, now it's the norm, and girls in their 20s are young moms.
