Much better than Taxi Driver...

That which is not yet, but ought to be, is more real than that which merely is.

I like it better than Taxi Driver too.

Also, Bickle was mentally unstable, while Keitel's character
isn't.

The lieutenant most definitely had mental problems. He bet ridiculous amounts of money on whims, he shoots a car radio because he was unhappy about the result of a world series game, he plays bizarre sex games with hookers and to call his temper monstrous is an understatement. Plus he believed that because he was a policeman no one could bring him down or kill him. He was a nutjob.
share"Americans are prudes who left Europe 'cos they hated all the kinky sex"
Actually, Americans like kinky sex. They left Europe because the women there were smelly, unshaven, and had bad teeth/breath, and because the men there were gay.
Just an old signature quote from "Eurotrip". No need to take it personally unless it touched a nerve.
I'm from Europe, and you can say what you like about the continent, for all I care.
It's made from bits of real panther, so you know it's good...
Bad Lieutenant and Taxi Driver had different goals. Bad Lieutenant was about a sinful man who hated himself trying to find redemption and for that, it was better than Taxi Driver. Taxi Driver was about an emotionally isolated male finally reaching the boiling/exploding point and for that, it was better than BL.
Comparing these movies is comparing apples to oranges.
... "sinful", "boiling/exploding" are all labels which are potentially a gateway to "depravity"...
'Apples & Oranges' are both quantities of fruit!
Do you see what I'm saying? There is a link here, no matter how tenuous you believe it to be.

And he (probably) did save Iris, fwiw.
sharei think this movie has better acting ...just on keitels part tho .... but taxi driver will be a work of art...this movie is apparently very good...but i just have a little feeling that its not gonna be popular in 20 years where as taxi driver will always stand though time....but..there can defintly be an argument here..i just think that taxi driver has better direction .

Best film about loneliness ever made. Even Scorcese says so!

Taxi driver was good, but I think a little overated. Bad Lieutenant on the other hand is a farily unknown movie that really delivers. I found Keitel's character more compelling and more interesting than Travis Bickle.

stop now, no comparison.
Taxidriver is much more cinematically better in narrative, photography, acting and atmosphere. BD is a great movie but it will never be Taxidriver brilliant, sorry.

...much more better than DB? No way.
:)
I love both very much, and they are similar in many ways, yet opposites. Generally, Travis is a good man turned bad, the Lt. is a bad man turned good. Overall, it is easier to sympathize with Travis Bickle. He desperately wants and tries to improve himself, it is the world around him that pushes him until the idea of violence can be his only source of relief. Despite his violent tendencies, he still has respectable qualities, such as his refusal of drugs/sex. The Lt. is more a part of the corruption around him, he already has what Travis wanted, and yet he still took the darker path that led to his own destruction.

I think you mean the depravity in certain areas of NYC.
Bad NYC areas =/= America, by any measure.
Fair enough, if you were offended then assume I was being more specific, by all means...
Having said that, do you not believe this could happen in another major capital? (it wouldn't have to be American... )
