What went wrong here?

One thing I liked here was the creative art design and the sets. I also like all the creative fun angles especially in the tunnel scene.

Also the fun 'era in between T2 and Jurassic Park...cgi looks very interesting here on screen.

In this case CGI 1992.

That damn plot with all the horrid prisoners and no hero to root for and the awful ending [the hero of the VERY FAMOUS 2 FIRST FILMS also ruined].

This could have been something special.

No Newt and Ripley shooting down Aliens. That's fine.

But that would have been much better and probably more entertaining than this film.

Which left almost all theaters in the U.S in less than 2 months.

Still better than Resurrection.

But everyone always says the film has aged well.

But has it really?

It's got like the same IMDB score.

So not a big difference really.

It appeared they wanted to bring the aliens to more people rather than vice versa, as with the first two films. In bringing the alien to a penal colony they failed miserably (bad idea #1). The only new character introduced who was in any way likeable was the doctor who got killed practically at the beginning of the picture. That was bad idea #2. And so it went. They would've been better off taking the approach of Predator 2, a mediocre film but still superior to this mess. It's really a pity that they wasted Fincher's talent on this story.
