Tell me honestly, is this better then the present vamp stuff?
You know, True Blood, Blood Ties, Twilight, The vamp diary?

Forever Knight does it better than all of them, so I'd say yes. True Blood is a good one though, very risque in some aspects. I enjoyed Blood Ties, shame it didn't last long. The rest of them, Twilight etc., they care flush them down the toilet as far as I'm concerned. I do agree about Moonlight, it was a copy-cat 2000's Forever Knight, but the original is still superior.

Forever Knight: the original and still the best.

The first two seasons of Forever Knight were great. The third season, however, was not good in my opinion. I hated Tracy Vetter and Vachon. My only problem with the first two seasons, though, is the cheese. Mick's flying was showin in the same way as George Reeves' flying in "The Adventures of Superman" from the '50s/60s. Also, when it shows a vampire's eyes glowing, they're just wearing yellow contacts and you see them step into a yellow light.
sharenever seen Twilight and have no desire to.
This IS THE BEST! that's all.
I know the fx were not that great, but the show aired in the late 80's/early 90's and perhaps there wasn't much of a budget, but I really loved it! I thought the acting was fantastic! BTW red rackham 77 it reminded me a lot of Beauty & the Beast (as did Moonlight) -If you haven't seen it I'd recommend it!
-The relationship between Nick & his 'father' LaCroix is very well written & I still think the ending was 'not bad' leaving a window of interpretation that B&B did not get!

Oh, I agree, the storylines and acting were great. As far as the eyes, I would have rather just seen yellow contacts. They didn't need to make them glow with that ridiculous yellow light. Look at Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and the 1991 Dark Shadows. Those all just had the vampires wearing contacts.

My biggest bitch about the whole thing was the fact that MOONLIGHT was basically meant to be a frame by frame remake, and it failed miserably. FK was great because it was set in the dreary Toronto, and while there was a little bit of a cheese factor, given the fact that it was on in the early 90s, there was still a lot of drama in this show, MOONLIGHT dropped the ball on all of that.
I beg to differ. While Moonlight was SIMILAR to Forever Knight, it was also very different. Nick was a cop. Mick was a PI. Nick had a cop partner. MIck solved crimes with a reporter. Nick was attoning (sp?) for his sins. Mick, while hating what he was, didn't become a PI to make up for his past. Nick was mentored by his sire. Mick had no mentor. Mick was turned into a vampire on his wedding night. Pretty sure Lacroix wasn't Nick's husband. Mick had a human love interest. Nick had a vampire love interest. As far as the tone of both series, they were both dramatic with some humor. Nick had Schanke. Mick had Josef.
While I really love both series I have to say that Moonlight took a lot of the same basics & feel as Forever Knight
-A brooding vampire wanting to become human again
-Not living in the shadows but participating in the human world & trying to help people
-Not biting humans anymore for blood but getting it from other sources
-While Nick had loved vampire Jeanette for 300 years he had other episodic human love interests & finally realized he loved human Natalie
-Mick has or had a similar triangle with Beth & Coraleen
Actually I think Moonlight's timing was off, if the show had begun airing a year later it could've been more popular b/c of the Twilight craze -I still think Moonlight was very good on its own merit though -I have both series' DVD's
-A brooding vampire wanting to become human again
But unlike Nick, Mick actually makes an effort to become human. When the opportunity is presented to him in the form of the Immortal Cure, Mick doesn't piss and moan and make excuses. He jumps right on it.
-Not living in the shadows but participating in the human world & trying to help people
-Not biting humans anymore for blood but getting it from other sources
So did Anne Rice's vampires, the Kindrd from The Masquerede, and pretty much every vampire in every incarnation of vampires where the vampire was supposed to be the good guy. Did Forever Knight rip them off too or is it just a common plot device?
-While Nick had loved vampire Jeanette for 300 years he had other episodic human love interests & finally realized he loved human Natalie
Angel loved Darla before meeting Buffy. We find out that Angel even had other love interests aside from Buffy during the course of the spinoff show.
-Mick has or had a similar triangle with Beth & Coraleen
It never really developed beyond a few episodes, but I never saw much of a triangle there. Mick was more interested in the "How in the hell are you alive and human after I killed you" aspect of Coraleen. Then when he was human he forgot about her completely and focused all of his attention on Beth.
With Nick, you never knew quite where he stood with Natalie. Even after their "feelings" were firmly established you still saw that Nick had feelings for Janette. And he was always playing mindgames with Natalie that she either had to pretend to ignore. I actually applauded her for finally calling him on the carpet in the beginning of season three and I didn't buy it at all the way she rolled over and forgave him at the end of the episode.
The bottom line is, I'm tired of everyone calling something a rip off just because it has similar themes
Hell, does anyone really think Stephanie Meyers was the first writer to introduce the idea of a group of high school going vampires, each having a unique power? Vampire High, anyone? Edward is basically a dead ringer for Dru and Alice's powers and history are very similar to Merril's. And Harry Potter is not the first story about a kid going to a wizarding school.
Yes, Moonlight is a story about a vampire who wants to be human. So is Angel. So is Interview with the Vampire. So is...you see what I'm getting at? It's a similar story, told in a different way, but it does not make it a "rip off".
It's like saying an orange is a ripoff from an apple because they're both fruits with seeds that you can make juice out of.

Actually, Forever Knight and Highlander The Series were a lot alike in their episodes of having a main plot, flashbacks related to the main plot, and a little subplot all going on. But Highlander was about immortals, not vampires. Moonlight was sort of a ripoff, but I liked it. I like the Vampire
Diaries when Damien is being bad or sexy, but not when all the teens are whining around. True Blood is good, but the synthetic blood thing was done years ago in Sundown The Vampire In Retreat. And Forever Knight was different than all the other vampire shows as teh vampires on it didn't, couldn't have sex, and all the others do.
Yes...but the FK vampires could have sex. They couldn't have sex with mortals. They had sex with each other.
One great thing about an FK vampire's bite is that it's orgasmic to the mortal. Bite me, please.
Hmm. I'd say yes and no. The stories in FK were fairly original (though now they've been poached quite a bit) but honestly the amazing cheesineess of that era is so pervasive that I have a hard time watching FK now. So, if you could lift the main characters and plots away from the cheese, yes. Otherwise it's kind of a draw.
And saying FK and Moonlight were the same is like claiming FK and Angel were the same, in the end the differences outweighed the similarities by far.
Y'know what's an even more interesting question? What's the psychopath got in the bag Jason? - CM
Regarding FK, I only find the sets and lighting occasionally cheesy. The writing and acting were exemplary, IMHO.

Forever Knight was far better than Tur Blood, Twilight or any of these other vampire operas out there today. The talent, charm and depth of character presented by Geraint Wyn Davies, Catherine Disher and especially Nigel Bennett was phenomenal. Another great character from the series was Knight's partner, Donald Schanke (played by John Kapelos), who often added the humor and human frailty which was sorely missed after his departure from this show.

True Blood is far from garbage. Blood Ties has something to offer, not much with it's reset button, but at least it's asthetically pleasing and the main vampire character actually drinks human blood.
Does it ever occur to anyone that Forever Knight was just right for it's time? Just a crime story with vampires thrown in and an occasional spot of romance. It was perfect for what viewers of that time wanted and/or needed.
Now people want more. For that we turn to True Blood, which is essentially a vampire romance with a lot of social realism thrown in, compelling characters and a story that actually gets told from start to finish.
And the thing with True Blood is that it proves the point that you don't have to read the books to get the overall premise of one season of the show. It stands well enough on it's own.
Forever Knight is a great show in many aspects. If you don't watch it expecting some sort of continuity then it works out. If you watch it expecting Shakespere on the other hand, you're going to be disappointed.

This is an old question I know but I feel like answering lol. As flighty as it sounds it really is all about preference. Some would say yes, some would say no. But I think what it really comes down to is kind of like music. Are you in the mood for somber, gothic and bittersweet or something upbeat and lovey dovey? Are you in the mood for something aggressive that will get your heart pounding or something angsty, reflective and mood altering? That’s the difference between all of the shows you’ve mentioned, as well as other shows. While some of the themes are basically the same (I mean how many different ways can you write about vampires, seriously) the overall feel is different. The writers have made something for everyone and God bless em for it.
Just cuz u think my opinions r wrong doesn’t magically make ur’s right. Stupid troll...
Hmm maybe you're right depending on the mood for what vamp show or movie is great. Me I might be just tired of vamp romantic stories and books and just want it to be over and done. Personally, I love wolves!

Yeah I’m fairly sick of em myself. Werewolves aren’t exactly new but they’ve never been cool or relatable before. The whole pack mentality and leadership angle etc have put them in a whole new light for me.

I have been on a Forever Knight kick lately. watching them on Youtube.
I loved them when they first aired and now.
I don't find the show 'cheesy' The acting was top-notch and the emotion heart felt.
I have not seen nor will I watch the above mentioned shows.
Forever Knight was a first-rate show. as someone else said. the first two seasons were the best. season three was losing steam and some of the added characters just didn't add much to it. but I love "Ashes to Ashes" with Lacroix's evil daughter coming to Toronto seeking revenge and as sad as the final episode was. I very much liked "Last Knight"
there are many shows from the 90's I didn't even watch or know of and some I avoided.
But This was my favorite.
I loved that they stuck with traditional vampire lores such as crosses, flight, hypno powers (my favorite), and stake through the heart.
The movie with Rick Springfield was a personal favorite of mine mainly cause it was made in the 80's with the best 80's music playing in the background.
Yes the third season was lacking because USA bought it and wanted to eliminate a lot of the cast cause they wanted more attractive actors Wayne-Davis said he'd quit if they got read of the actress that played Natalie.
