Anybody feel sorry for the trucker?

They shot up his truck for being a pig!:

Now he is stranded in the dessert. His delivery won't make it to Fresno and he will loose some pay. He will have to pay for dammages! He could have been seriously hurt, maybe even killed from the explosion! Then they drive away and laugh about it! Come on!

He was probably lonely on the road. He just saw the opportunity for some female companionship. So they let him down there. But, Truckers are supposed to be pigs!

Granted not appologizing was a stupid mistake, especially when people are pointing a gun at you. But now he was vicitimsed.

Remember he has no idea what Thelma went through: (getting raped, robbed, beaten by her husband and forced to commit robery.)

If the scene had been serious, I would agree with you.

But I just saw it as pure comedy and found it very funny. He was not just an a**hole, he was a completely over the top a**hole! So of course, their response was magically over the top.

Because it was comedy, it was OK that they could trigger an immediate massive explosion with a single shot.
And neither does it matter that they magically survived being so close to the blast.

I loved & hated him equally, but (we both) comprehended the character totally.

All I could think was Dennis Hopper in Waterworld, proclaiming his most famous words, "That made a hole!", Channing Tatum's "Dammmmmnnnnn", and chuckle with a simple "Oh man!" While theoretically it's impossible to cause an explosion by firing a gun at a gas tank, it definitely looked "BADASS!" which is what determines the end of the film.

Marco St John is a friend of mine. Wonderful person. Amazing actor - He is polar opposite of his character in real life :)

There wasn't any character arching during his screen time for us to feel sorry for him.
He was one-dimensional.
Nothing to feel sorry about.
I think the appeal of that scene was how irreverent and extreme their actions were.
Anarchy, as told by two female protagonists.
I wouldn't take what happened to the trucker seriously.

Yes! That trucker was sexist creep and a total idiot, but he could easily have been burned to death. Did he deserve that? I don't think so.

This movie and these women who inhabit it are ridiculous. Nobody deserves to have his truck blown up and his life endangered for being a boor. These two idiots were overreacting, paranoid sociopaths. At least, in the end, they did the world a favor.

Wow...people do realise that this is a movie and not real, right?

Cant believe some of the comments here.

As a man I loved this movie, never considered it anti men at all, though there are some examples of guys who are just basic assholes...as they can be in real life. But they were well written and entertaining to watch...

The trucker...clearly a figure of fun an a sexist stereotype I guess, but a feel good scene because it's good to see a guy like that get his come uppance. It's a fun scene , a crowd pleaser...can't believe people are feeling sorry for the character.

Brad Pitts character...a scoundrel basically. Charming, an eye for the ladies but he would hustle every last penny out of them if he could. One of the roles that defined him.

Michael Madsen...he clearly loved Louise but had trouble showing and expressing his feelings. A nicely understated performance from Madsen.

Jason Beghe as the "nazi" cop. Hilarious...pristine, not a hair out of place, impeccable uniform, clearly gets off on the power of his position, and like the truck driver it was satisfying to see him get his just desserts. The follow up scene with the Rasta guy us just the icing on the cake.

Harvey Keitel...a very sympathetic character, probably the one guy that is on the girls side and understands what they are going through.

Ans best of all...Daryll, Thelmas husband. One of the funniest character performances ever by Christopher MacDonald. I just love that guy.

Add to that some incredible cinematography and a brilliant score...its always been one of my favourite movies.

Nope, I don't feel sorry for him at all. He was a total @sshole!
