When I saw this movie the first time, when it first came out, I did not understand that scene where Tom and Sally are discussing the future of their marriage. Tom asks Sally how he can help her.

Now that I have been married 25 years, I understand it completely.

I assume he was referring to what it's like to fall in love with someone, build a life with them, and then fall out of love but still care for them.
