How would you rate this movie?
No more than 5 or at most a 6/10, not too bad but not among Van Damme's very best in my opinion.

shareIt's a Van Damme classic, but typically average for him. I would say judging from the era it's in and its competition of the time, a 6 is a gracious score. Now, if we judge it on a curve compared to modern action movies like this, it's probably a 7 on the low end, because 90's movies were sooooo good.
As with many JCVD classics, and there are quite a few, these can be watched spontaneously any time, over and over, whenever you desire, but that doesn't mean it's a 10. In fact, any film I rate a 10 is probably not watched all that much by me, because it's probably heavier, for example Lawrence of Arabia or Doctor Zhivago.
My movie watching habits thrive in the 5-7 range.

a 5 or 6/10 is a fair score, I think. It's a typical early 90s action film i.e. fun and trashy. Guns, tits, explosions - you know what you're getting into. I know the story was based on The Corsican Brothers, but to me this is a live action Double Dragon videogame.
I read this was Van Damme's break out movie into more straight shoot em up action, which is where he belonged. It's a real shift in quality from the lower budget Kickboxer and slower moving Bloodsport. They knew they had a burgeoning star on their hands and Double Impact was the perfect vehicle for VD to show off his chops.
His best movies are Universal Soldier, Nowhere to Run and Legionnaire. Double Impact is the best of the rest.
