Why do people like this film?

Growing up a jcvd fan I thought this was just as good as the rest of them. All a jcvd movie needed back then was awesome fights (kicks), and a seemingly unbeatable villain for the hero to beat up at the end. Story, characters, development, acting all meant nothing. So having bolo beat up Alex early on and then Alex win later with style was perfect. I don’t think I could sit through it today except maybe watching some of the fight scenes one more time.

It's silly, over the top, and some pretty bad acting, but it's just so much fun to watch. You either get it or you don't I suppose. Also if you grew up watching this movie then nostalgia can make it seem better

It's fun early 90s action cheese. I find that it's much easier to enjoy if you just accept it for what it is. JVCD doing his signature fancy splits & kicks & of course lots of gratuitous flexing/posing, with a passable B movie plot to hold it together.

What do you mean a pass? It's been panned by critics and didn't really make a ton of money. Action fans like it, but no one thinks it's a fine piece of film.

Its regarded as the best action film of the 90s because it features 2 Van Damme's. No other action movie had 2 of the same stars like Arnold, Stallone, Chuck Norris or Bruce Willis in them

it is one of van d's better films.

i like this, universal soldier and nowhere to runs much better than any other film he make.

I love when he says dresses like a fagget lol. No homohate just he is dressed a bit gay at times.
Thats just one of many parts that make me crack up . Love it

It's got fucking Van Damme! That alone makes it hard for me to dislike any movie.
