How were they (Jean Claude Van Damme twins, of course)...

... so incredibly good at fighting, shooting and destroying so many bad guys successfully and taking down an entire evil organization by themselves, without the aid of police, Army and other services and whilst apparently, not being any members of either organization (Army, police, secret service etc) themselves, and could also successfully locate them after 25 years or so of having their parents killed?

Granted, I get it that they were extremely determined, and possibly have spent many years if not their entire life (but then, judging how at times Chad and Alex were NOT getting along with each other too well, fighting and all, and were apparently separated) looking for those responsible etc and they probably picked up on a few skills fighting and shooting and all, but enough to take down an entire evil organization like that? Even for a silly action movie like this, did this sort of premise stretch its breaking point?

Or do you think that within the realms of this movie it was sort of plausible and no less believable than what we have seen in Die Hards, Lethal Weapon and the James Bond films et all and maybe the twin brothers also used other skills of sorts to locate, fight and defeat the 100 or so villains? Cheers.

reply

locate? One of them was already working with them, along with his girl.

reply

But did he not intentionally locate them first and then start working with them in an undercover sort of way, or did he at the time not really know who they were and what they did and it was just a coincidence that he happened to work for the same organization responsible for killing his/their parents?

reply

Did you not see the movie or something? Yes, the second part. A powerful organization employees lots of people. The girl was working for the straight side of the operation, and Alex did odd jobs that crossed paths with the dirty side of it.

reply

this happens all the time in movies and nobody blinks an eyelid
...unless its a girl doing it , then all hell breaks loose

reply

Unless its a girl "doing what" and in what ways does "all hell break loose" in such a case????

reply

I usually also don't "blink an eye" in such cases or even in your aforementioned "hell raising" example and I really can't speak for everyone either. Is there some pattern to these things I am not aware of?

And here, again, I was mostly curious but for different entirely reasons people may not be aware of.

For example, ever since childhood, I was at times surprised and frustrated, even for action movies, that if such characters aren't cops, soldiers, special forces and agencies etc, that they can find, battle and kill loads of bad guys and win. BUT THAT'S JUST ME. And even I got used to it at least in some cases etc.

And once again, I was curious.

Besides, I've seen plenty of examples of female action heroes also battling against bad guys and winning, it did not cause me to think and act "especially scandalous" etc for ANY reason, objective, "logical" or downright personal - the latter one is nearly ALWAYS how I react and interpret matters in films and more so - real life as well, no matter what, at times inane, "traditions" there may be, some of which I even just choose to, again personally, ignore.

You cant have failed to notice the regular torrent of hate and vitriol towards women and minorities from the far right republican asshat contingent of this website?

The Terminator - Dark Fate page is one hotspot from the top of my head.
Its a recent thing , I dont know why , perhaps a certain generation of total dickwads has just reached the age they can buy their own broadband and go on the internet ...

As you say theres been female heroes before , its just the new ones that crop up that cop for it.

reply

I haven't failed to notice it but I failed to understand it and RELATE to it.

Also - just to inform, but ever since childhood I had this rather STRANGE MOVIE-RELATED worry where say in action movie scenarios, people who are not cops, soldiers, FBI, secret agents and whatnot, took on many bad guys and won, not only was it not realistic even in this genre category but there was something in and about it I just found off-putting and it even got me quaking, shaking, shivering and not in a pleasant way either.

I wonder, is that normal or what?

And I wonder, regardless of how we feel about GIRL action heroes for whatever reason(s) even what some have mentioned here, how people feel or felt about THAT angle including it being here, or does it bother literally NO-ONE?

Besides, didn't those Van Damme twins/brothers in DI learn martial arts and weapons after being raised not by parents for like two decades or so, which makes THIS scenario of them being able to take down on bad guys just as plausible as John McClane can in the "Die Hard" movies or the buddy cops in "Lethal Weapons"?

Let's have some more responses please along THOSE lines, thank you!

"and minorities"
Pfff, I see say plenty of minorities from time to time in action movies and unless I specifically went out and scrutinized the situation, I saw no great complaints there.

ALSO, I dare say, MAYBE we ARE getting a bit carried away in here INCLUDING myself.

I mean, I kinda wondered and wanted to talk about an aspect *I personally* found curious and not get too involved in say social and controversial gender or otherwise issues even in ACTION movies like this one, which, of course is not representative of real life either way. Various social and otherwise aspects of life briefly put aside, in REAL LIFE, you don't have a few good guys taking on tons of bad guys from organized crime and winning like that by themselves and living happily ever after, at least not like this and in this fashion, right?

And if the good guys are not cops or soldiers etc then is that aspect like tolerable or intolerable for audiences?

Just wondered about that.

reply

Also... At what point did they decide to fight off and avenge their deaths, and why not get the police involved instead?

reply

Also, how were they so confident that they could and would achieve the victory against that whole criminal enterprise, and did they ever think, stop or worry if their training alone is enough for that, and that they won't get killed in the process?

And why didn't the villains, besides it being a movie that was intended in this way, SUCCEED in this, what advantages did the two brothers with a little help of Geoffrey Lewis' character, manage to possess, besides a small ability to handle firearms, know martial arts and than "uncle" of them also somewhat competent in handling explosives?

Given how the villains here were not some weak vessels themselves, they knew martial arts, they also could shoot and fight and kill and outnumbered the "heroes" too?
