Really do not care how much these flicks are looked down upon

I was born in '84 and have been raised in the Schwarzenegger/Van Damme/Seagal action era. This is the stuff I literally grew up watching and still, at 26, love them just as much. There is something about the martial arts pictures of the late 80's/early 90's that had a whole lot of charm and atmosphere. Unlike today's action flicks, they did not look like music videos, with that candy coated, high contrast/glossy picture that's so ubiquitous today, with epileptic seizure inducing editing. In the older flicks, like in Double Impact, the shots were tight and simple, they used TRIPODS (no gratuitous shaky handheld camera way too close to the actors) and you got a clear sense of geography; you see exactly what's going on and who's hitting who. That's the kind of stuff I appreciate. I'll take Double Impact over Transporter any day.

If there are any other DI fans out there, speak up!

Wow i really thought I was alone. It just seemed to me that theres no one out there that like these kind of films. Its all about that crap they bring out nowadays.
I love Van Dammes films in general. You just can't beat them in my opinion.
There are some ok films made today but not many that compare to the old films. I'd much prefer to watch a Van Damme film than all that garbage they bring out today. Like i said you just can't beat them!

The early days of Van Damme and Seagal are my favorite years in cinema. I guess it's because that was when I started martial arts, so films like Bloodsport, Double Impact, Kickboxer, Lionheart, Cyborg, Above the Law, Hard to Kill, Out For Justice and Marked for Death resonate with me so much.

Factor in other timeless action classics such as Die Hard 1 and 2, Lethal Weapon 1 and 2, Predator 1 and 2, Tango & Cash, Action Jackson, Stone Cold, Cobra, Red Heat, Commando, Raw Deal and The Perfect Weapon, and you've got an action movie era that is unmatched!

I'm with you dude. I grew up in the 80s too and tbh films like Double Impact, Bloodsport, Commando, Predator etc. etc. just have the most quotable lines ever. The acting is what makes me want to watch them again and again.

I love these films as well. I don't care what people think of my taste either, although folk are entitled to like what they want, naturally. I just love kick-ass films and this ticks all the right boxes for me!

"Hey! Ladies! That was fun!"

I told him he's in Best of the Best, he said "what's that?" I gave him my dvd and said "watch this and when you bring it back, I'll give you your man card"he never saw Robocop either until I let him borrow that too WTF?

reply

That's ridiculous, how can anyone male have not seen Robocop unless they were born in the 90s.

I really don't care what critics or self-proclaimed movie buffs think. I like good action flicks too, especially 80's and 90's Schwarzenegger movies. Even though I'm a fellow Belgian, Van Damme's stuff interested me much less. There are some entertaining movies in his filmography, don't get me wrong. But this one for instance I found to be pretty bad. It just starts with the double role premise, that really didn't work for me.

80's and 90's action movies were the best! I'll take any Van Damme/Sly/Arnold movie from that time period over most of these crappy action movies today...cough...Fast and the Furious series...cough.
