I haven't watched this show in at least 20 years, and recently subscribed to a free month of Hulu Plus. It's awesome how they have some 90s Nick shows on there. Anyway, I couldn't believe that Janet was actually shown smoking a cigarette in the second episode ("No TV").
Definitely wouldn't happen now.

shareBy the early 1990s it was already old hat (more a 1960s thing) and Clarissa would never be shown (in reply to any of these kinds of comments).On the othjer hand today's "Bad Moms" set today, (2016/1) has a lot of that..Janet wasn't seen as perfect, Clarissa was the symphatetic one (also, in a veyr early one, "Ren and Stimpy" background music used in early 60s cartoons is used, now definitely under legal tie-ups but anyhting else is the guitar wokr of Rachel Sweeton Clarissa..;on the other hand Janet's s,moking ould makle her much more attractive, esp.to hick redneck kids who love this.
shareIt was a common theme near the end of the 80's and beginning of the 90's. It was done in Christmas Vacation too. You also had Riggs eating dog biscuits in Leathal Weapon to promote non-smoking. It was an honest view of how former smokers may revert back under stress.
shareI don't remember that. But it sounds really weird since Janet was a crazy health food fanatic. Why would a person like that smoke, which is much worse for your health than using some real butter when you bake a cake?
shareI don't remember Clarissa's mom smoking, but it's been a long time since I watched that show. I was 9 and 10 when that was on tv.
