What do you think about this movie?
Do you like it at all?
To you personally, how does it rate as far as buddy action movies go, and films directed by and especially starring, Clint Eastwood?
middling as far as Eastwood-directed pictures,
same goes for being a buddy action movie,
runs too long at 120 minutes & Raul Julia is poorly-cast as a racist German auto-theft kingpin
I will go into details a little later but about 6/10 is what I personally give it.
sharePersonally speaking, although it is indeed one of Eastwood's weaker movies, but then again, this legendary long time actor, director and Hollywood ICON has done SO MANY downright BRILLIANT and amazing films, some of them rank among my top 50 favourite movies EVER, with for instance, in my opinion, the greatest ever Western movie ever made "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" (1966) being one of my top 5 favourite films EVER, it is still strangely decent and watchable enough.
As a buddy comedy police action thriller movie ala "48 hours" and "Lethal Weapon", as an Eastwood movie and as a flick in general.
It is nowhere near perfect. It does have some of its flaws and goofs, the lead baddie doesn't really convince as a "German" for instance, it doesn't have too great say a camera work, editing and whatnot, it does at best a decent workman like job at best overall. Not all of the performances are that good or impressive and even Eastwood has done much better as an actor too. But as far as these things go, it is a decent guilty pleasure type of switch off your brain and enjoy action movie.
Some of its other weird and at one point a downright controversial element, such as Clint Eastwood's character being sexually violated by a female villain Sonia Braga, the fact that this movie even has a female villain herself who is capable of being just as tough as certain men (and played by a talented actress to boot) and certain others, do add to its level of morbid adult action movie fascination vibe.
So yeah a decent 6/10 guilty pleasure B movie for me. :)
