Anybody think this film just edges above Predator 1987?

Predator is firmly better. There are a lot of elements I like in Predator 2.

-more predator tech and weapons shown
-more lore and visuals with predator
-an agency that is "aware" of the predators existence
-more blood.
-connections to prequel.

Beyond that it's just weaker -
-supporting characters aren't as interesting or memorable
-when supporting characters are killed they're basically off screen
-predator doesn't come off as intimidating
-the trial and error of "cracking" the predator wasn't as interesting.

That all said, it looks better and better compared to the movies that have followed it but for me can't top the original.

Surely, you are not serious, they are not even close in comparison.

predator 2 is better action film that predator 1 - more action set piece in part 2.

predator 1 is better storys and betting actings and more depth to character. it have more atmosphere. setting and tensions is better.

it depend what you prefer. predator 1 is sci-fi/action horror film. predator 2 is comic book action non stop.
