I agree that this film could benefit from a remake, the remake would need to add some clarity to a few things and also have better character development.

I disagree with your reasoning though, a lot of the effects in Nightbreed are top notch, most of them are practical and the only way you're topping that is if you go with someone like Guillermo Del Toro who is a master at that kind of stuff, anyone else and you're looking at a potential CGI Shlockfest.

A miniseries could be the best bet for this material. I saw someone else mention ( either on here or in a review ) that it felt like material from a show edited together to make a movie. While I don't wholly agree with that assessment ( Nightbreed does feel like a film, albeit a somewhat muddled one ), I do agree with the sentiment that the material is obviously dense and a miniseries ( or hell, a full series really ) could give it the room it needs.

My vote would be to skip a theatrical remake and instead do a remake/reboot as an event-series on a streaming service like Netflix. Maybe see if Guillermo del Toro could get involved (even if just as a producer) since he'd be perfect for the material, and of course have Clive heavily involved in the writing and perhaps directing.
