What happened?

What happened? When did Bastian turn into this blonde, hunky teenager? When did Attryu get a very heavy tan? When did the Rock-biter get a squeaky voice? When did the Childlike Emperess curl her hair? When did the Ivory Tower turn into some 80's Duran Duran album cover? Did I pass out for a hundred years? Is everyone in Fantasia on drugs? Are we on drugs? God what happened? OH GOD WHAT HAPPENED?!

This is a very sad thread.

I think this is a great movie that I watched several times in my childhood. I also liked the first one. It was the third one that sucked.

neverending story 2 (the movie is a sequel) unlike the book, which does not start off with bastian back in the real world. In the book bastian never left fantasia (fantastica) after the events of the first movie.

The film makers made one stand alone film, with an ending. so every film that followed was a sequel with no such flow, that the book had. and any how the first two films dont cover the book at all, they would have to make at least 3 maybe 4.

Okay, trying to salvage this thread.

If you haven't noticed already Raven is a Troll, a pathetic little loser who only tries to get attention. The only goal he has is to upset people and to get them to waste their precious time on him. He doesn't want to discuss anything, he's only interested in getting feedback. Here's how to deal with trolls:

1.Don't respond. If you have already delete all your answers
2.Report Him as a Troll
3.Put him on ignore

I've done that already. Have a nice day!

EDIT: It means I can't see your filthy insults, Raven-shmaven!

I'm 20, i still enjoy pissing certain people off, but it's only fun when that person has an imagination..and the will to try and make him/herself more arrogant/dislikeable/funny in a shallow kinda way.....these are the rules of engagement Raven, so if you reply to this in your usual borin style, you can suck the smeg off my peg and hear not from me ever again, till judgement day.
Now woudn't that be sad......R.I.P.

My thoughts on Raven:

1. He may only know three lines of English, and that's why he recycles them. Like if you said, "Good morning, Raven." He'd respond, "Kid, the truth hurts and BUUUURRRRRNNNNSSS inside you, kid, kid."

2. I don't actually think he is a kid himself, but more like an overweight, alcoholic, unemployed, divorced 45 year old who moved back in with his mother and stays in the basement.

3. He may not realize that calling people kids who are adults really isn't very insulting to Americans. It's not much of a putdown. It doesn't hurt my feelings. And when he says, "The truth hurts," I don't think he realizes that it is usually in response to an insult someone has given him and his answer makes absolutely no sense in the context.

4.If he thinks all Americans are ignorant then he should take a stand by not buying any American products, not listening to any American music, not watching any American TV shows (like LOST, which he apparently likes), and not viewing any American movies.

5. Why does he thinks it's cool to keep posting on a thread about such a stupid 15 year old movie?

6. I also don't think he knows that when people repeat him they are not copying him, but making fun of him.

Raven, your responses are as simple as your mind. Maybe you are the one who's jealous that we have the largest economy in the world and Americans in poverty have a better quality of life than 80% of the world's population. For a people as ignorant as us, we are far more successful than you'll ever be you stupid Nazi.

Was the Lord of the Rings made into 2 films first? I am talking about the animated version from the 70's... I thought there was only the 2 The Lord of the Rings and Return of The King...

As for the topic on hand....

I really liked the original film and could'nt understand why they never used the same actors in the second.. The actors probably saw the script and thought I am not getting involved in this pile of Tripe...

I'd just like to say that I think it's unbelievable that the arguments with raven went on as long as they did, especially considering how many times he simply repeated the same phrases over and over. Hasn't anyone ever heard the phrase "Don't feed the trolls?"

As for the actual topic, it wasn't nearly as good as the first, but I was at that age, so I was mostly drooling over Jonathan Brandis at the time. It really wasn't terrible, but it certainly had a lot of continuity errors that kept it from following the first movie well.

Raven is obviously a small child. I wouldn't be suprised if he were, in fact, an American who finds indemnification from abusive parents through aggravating others. However, those who continue to respond to him are vacuous.

Raven, you don't need to respond because I'll do it for you:

"hey kid truth hurts huh? kid... u have school tomorow plz goto bed kid LOL!!!!1"

reply

I never noticed that till you mentioned it! The insect-creature things do look like the ones in the Dark Crystal. All we need is a John Huges reference somewhere and its everything you loved/hated about the 80's!

You obviously do, otherwise you wouldn't have responded to it.

I bought the first movie a couple months ago because I always loved watching it as a child. Then, a couple weeks ago I was visiting up in Portland and happened to come across the second movie at a reasonable price and bought it. I like it, but definitely not as much as the first one and it does bother me that the characters are played by different actors and some of the other things (such as voices, etc.) are different.

reply

Holy crap; this thread deserves a reward of some sort. "World's Longest Internet Argument".

But pertaining to the topic, I actually preferred this Bastian to Oliver Barret, even though Barret looked more like Ende's description. And of course, Hathaway owns as Atreyu, and I wish he could have played in the second one. I hated the concept of the rockbiter' family. Nimbly didn't even exist, though I liked him. I wanted the Many-Coloured Death. =/ But you can't win them all. I liked that they gave Falkor his correct eye colour, though they could have made him more lion-ish and less doggish. This movie was alright from seeing it as a movie. But in terms of its relation to the book, it wasn't that great.

reply

Yeah, big mistake. It had so much potential but was totally messed up. This is for 6-8 year olds.

Yeah this movie is a purist's "worst" nightmare, and even based on its own merits as a sequal I found it a bit weak. But as you all already mentioned, it deserves at least 2 stars because of its being better than the 3rd...

Don't you people get it?? Raven's trying to create a 'neverending' thread!

reply

1. To stay on topic: I saw the first movie before reading the book and liked it then. But as soon as I had read the book, I saw that even Petersen's rendition is really only a mediocre film at best. No wonder Michael Ende had his name removed from it before it was released. I was 12 when I realized that. So my advice is READ THE BOOK!
The second and third film are just too bad to waste time on.

2. I found this thread long after raven's comments were deleted. I did not bother to re-read the whole thing on some outside website since it was clear what was said just reading the answers. How can anyone be so childish? I refer both to raven and the people who felt the need to pick up on his comments and let loose some pretty bad insults themselves. And as for nagging him about his spelling (which judging from surviving quotes is really underwordly, but not uncommon in the age of texting) - except for one person everybody who criticized him made at least one grievous spelling or grammar mistake (and yes, it is spelt grammar not grammer) themselves. So before you throw the first stone ...

Im a big lover of such films as Neverending Story, having seen all these types when I was a child.

Neverending Story 2 is my fave out of the trilogy.
It captures my imagination the most and intrigues me.

So, what the original poster, and, those agreeing with him/her are saying is that I should leave my hair one style for the rest of my life? Or, that I should never tan in the sun? Or, that I shouldn't exercise and get some muscles. So what if the Childlike Empress has short, dark, curly hair. I mean, i'm sure that even though Fantasia is far different than Earth, its inhabitants still get hair-dos/cuts and makes some changes with themselves. Atreyu is a warrior, which means he probably spends alot of time in the sun, so, why not a tan? And, Bastian is like five years older, so, i'm sure he's grown a bit from the first film. You people make no sense. People change drastically in five years (or, was 2 suppose to be in the same timeline as 1?). Heck, even in months. Just months ago I had a mo-hawk and now I have thick, feathery hair. Anyways, though 2 was as good as the original, it still was enjoyable with some pros. Here's some:

The Villain: Xayide was great as the villainess. I mean, she just looked cold and mean.

The Ship of Secret Plots: While a brief encounter here, the characters were awesome. I thought that lady who sung when she spoke and played that harp (or whatever it's called) was pretty neat.

Xayide's fortress: I thought the whole thing with the dark hand was awesome. It looked very creepy.

Xayide's henchmen: Tri-Face was just freaky and Nimbly was pretty awesome as a villain turned good.

The Childlike Empress: While I like the facial innocence of the Empress from the first, I like the style of the Empress from the second as much/better.

"The Neverending Story": The theme song from sung in the end credits of part 2 was, IMO, better than that of the first. The first was more pop, while the one from part 2 was a bit more rock. The instruments were much clearer in the song as well, and, I liked the guys vocals better from part 2's version.

Anyway, that's just my two cents on The Neverending Story II: The Next Chapter.

I mean it is bad. Ya know. Like bad as in bad. Like, I'm bad, Jamal, you know it. -Elvira, M.O.T.D.
